So the SEC will just let multiple game go unaired on any network? And thus get less coverage than they do now? That makes a lot of sense. Until I see someone ask specifically about this, I will assume there is no definitve answer. Anything else is just an assumption.

Again not the SEC call
Espn owns the network and rights
It's their call

So you think espn will offer SEC products to compete with the SEC network they just paid a arm and a leg for?
Did they not do that under the current TV deal with football on Fox Sports?

OK so the SEC is going to enter into an agreement with ESPN that will allow its current sports less coverage than they get now. Like I said, there has been no definitve answer on this.

I'm just discussing shite. I'm not acting like I've got facts, just assumptions based on my knowledge of business.

No one is disputing this. We are questioning whether they would sit on games they aren't televising as opposed to actually selling them to make money.
You seem to think it is a crazy idea but they are already doing it under the current deal with football, and presumably other sports also. From the current agreement:
quote:
ESPN has acquired rights to every SEC home football game (excluding those on the network broadcast package) and serves as the exclusive national cable home and the syndication rightsholder for the conference.
So according to you we haven't seen any games on Fox or other regional networks over the last 3 or 4 years, correct?

Well first I'm talking all LSU sports not just football and men's basketball
I have zero concern about football but the way I read the deal is all the kinda stuff you might see on cox is done

You specifically said they wouldn't sell games they have the rights to regardless of whether or not they planned to broadcast it. They are doing it with football which is easily the biggest moneymaker, what makes you think they won't in the future? The current FOX and other regional deals weren't announced until after the initial SEC/ESPN announcement. Just because it hasn't been announced yet doesn't mean it cant or won't be done in the future.

Pretty black & white: no Geaux Zone, no Tiger Vision, no CST, for all LSU games in every sport. According to JA on 104.5 yesterday & most interpretations of the contract, local fans will get hurt but it is good for the conference as a whole. "Every school is having to make sacrifices". Without being specific, he was referencing LSU baseball, as a wkend where all 3 games will be shown such as this wkend will never happen again. CST has already said they are done with covering SEC sports. ESPN will control all rights to increase the demand for its product, so, no, there is no economic sense for it to allow another network to show its product under any circumstances.

So it makes sense now, but not in the future? Or it doesn't make sense now either, and they've just been doing it for the hell of it?

From the FAQ released by the SEC:
It sounds like Geauxzone will go away in name, but the games could still be produced by the school and streamed by the network.

36.Right now, I see all my favorite team’s games online at the [SEC school athletics] site. Will I still be able to see all those games?
The Network is for media rights to all sports across our 14 member institutions. Any games produced by the schools will have an outlet, either the SEC Network or its digital extensions, where fans can watch.

Exactly. It won't be run by LSU anymore but it will still be available.

Then if correct, I stand corrected. But it will still be a matter of the amount of fees ESPN will charge any who want to broadcast SEC games outside of ESPN's own coverage. And with ESPN's history re such fees, they won't be cheap & potentially passed on to the fans in some form or another.

Not good news for LSU football fans.
Under the deal as described by Slive, all SEC home games become property of the SEC Network for broadcast rights. That means that the SEC Network will decide when they are played. Thus, it means more day games in Tiger Stadium.
Here's why: The SEC Network owns all rights to all games played in SEC home stadiums not taken by CBS or one of the ESPN networks. The SEC network can only show one game at a time, and this contract is the first time an SEC game will be scheduled against the 2:30 CBS game. So, when the network needs a game for the 2:30 time slot or even the dreaded 11:20 brunch, they can tap who they want.
If this was in effect in 2013, I could easily see a scenario where a game like this years Oct 26 game against Furman showing up on the morning slot: CBS picks up Tenn@Bama, ESPN evening passes on SEC because games stink, ESPN2 picks up USC@Mizzou, 3Daves pick up KY@State, leaving Vandy@aTm as the premier game for the SECN. That game gets picked up for the 6pm slot, leaving FAU@Auburn, Idaho@GTHOM & Furman@LSU to be spread across the rest of the SECN day. Under the PPV rules, all three of those games would be scheduled at the discretion of the school, but here, at least two of them will be on the SECN, who will decide the kickoff time. If only two are picked up, the other one won't be available to anyone.
Get ready for rent-a-win games during the day. Sigh.
