Sitting here at work, watching LSU videos on YouTube, I was just wondering who was a better QB?

I am not talking by the numbers because I believe the 2007 team was a better offensive team than the 2003, and Flynn had more weapons to go to.

They were both fun to watch, didn't give me heart attacks like Jefferson and Lee.

I would give the edge to Mauck because he was a better runner than Flynn and was a little taller I believe.

Just my opinion and just starting a topic for the hell of it, no fighting or belittling needed.

Flynn's a little better than Mauck, but Mauck had a little experience edge in his last year at LSU.

Both were great for their teams and both were great leaders. I think Mauck could run better than Flynn but Flynn could throw better. Mauck could take a hit as good or better than Flynn. Both were quiet leaders both on and off the field. They were true quaterbacks who did nothing exceptionally well except....... WIN, and that's what it's all about.

If by better QB you are speaking of mechanics and such - definitely Flynn. Had Flynn been our QB his Juior year he'd have won 2 NC's

Flynn and it's not even close, remember he played hurt after VT game for several weeks. Go back and really watch LSU in 03 they won with a very good running game and a great Defense. Mauck's stats against the really good teams we played sucked. Not saying he wasn't great for the team but Flynn was a much better QB. Probably why he is in the Pros and Mauck is a Dentist.

Flynn is a better quarterback, but if you'll notice, the leadership and knowledge of the game or what to do in clutch situations is what what won them the championships, not so much their physical skills. We've lacked quarterback sense over the passed few years, obviously. We don't need a quarterback with a "can you wipe my arse for me" mentality, always looking at the sidelines wondering what to do.

We're lucky to have won one national championship with Flynn. People are quick to forget how poorly he played in the Kentucky game and the first half of the Arkansas game.

I'm not a huge fan, but I'll take 2 bad games as opposed to 2 good ones in a season, if you know where I'm going. Hell, I'd venture to say JJ has only had 2 or 3 good ones in his career!

Tough decision but I have to go with Flynn. I think he was more of a factor in the 07 run than Mauck was in 03. While Mauck could run, Flynn definitely saved a lot of drives with his legs. Plus I remember more clutch throws from Flynn than Mauck.

But I also think the 03 team would have beat the 07 team. What a helluva purple and gold game that would be!

Push, maybe slight edge to Flynn.

Flynn seemed to play better in big games and consistently throw a better ball, but his completion % on about exactly the same amt of throws their last years is 8 pts lower. that ain't all Lafell drops, his accuracy could be shitty too.

for the "Mauck sucked in big games" crowd, he had some not so great games against ranked teams, but also showed the ability to make GW throws in some of those same games.

passing stats for some context:

Mauck 03

Flynn 07

Mauck and it's not really that close. He set a then LSU record with 28 TD passes in the 2003 National Championship year. His record as a starter was 18-2. It seems like everytime people bring his name up they say "You see, all LSU needs is a game manager like Matt Mauck." It's as if everyone forgets he threw for more touchdown passes in a single season than any quarterback in the history of the school up to that point.

IMHO Flynn was more of a game manager when he wasn't throwing interceptions to Kentucky and Arkansas. Somehow we also managed to beat Alabama that year despite Flynn's FOUR interceptions IN THE FIRST HALF. He did play lights out in vs. Ohio State when it really mattered though.
