If they don't play their talent doesn't affect any outcome so yes it does.

These players either redshirted or hardly played at all and Kyle williams and Andrew whitworth were not on this team. Still a great season and at the end of the year we could've beat anyone.

The 2012 list included players that didn't contribute until later, I assumed that on roster meant fair game.

Whitworth was a redshirting freshman, and again, if we're counting Daneille Hunter and Deion Jones for 2012 then the entire roster should count for 2001.

You're right on Kyle Williams, he's a year younger than I thought.

Whitworth was a freshman in 02 yes redshirted 01. And I wouldn't count those guys if they don't see the field. The roster and the team are 2 diff things.

Since this whole discussion involves the under-utilization of talent, the failure to play a talented player does indeed affect outcomes.

Your position would lead to the circular logic that playing DJ Welter over Kendall Beckwith has no effect on the outcomes of games because how could the talent of Beckwith affect a game when he isn't even playing.

No he wasn't. He's a year older than me. I knew him at LSU.

Beckwith wasn't a redshirt in 14 and lamin barrow was the guy who should've played in front of dj in 13.

Was just using it as an example of a situation where not playing a guy can still have a big impact.

Corey Webster and Randall Gay turned out to be pretty good DBs, maybe if they had played more in 2001 the pass defense would've been better. And I forgot about Travis Daniels and his burnt redshirt in the SECCG...resulted in a wasted regular season for a DB who was clearly good enough to contribute on a team relatively weak at pass D.

Also Ben Wilkerson was the starting center and you included him in your list of non-contributers.

They did get a bowl win. The 2012 team was in every game and quite frankly should have beaten Bama and Clemson. Miles' clock management and Tajh Boyd's 4th and 16 conversion cost us that one

Yup. I was as that game. That 4th and 16 they picked up sealed it. Tharold Simon got his arse handed to him all night. Was very frustrating.

Do we really have to re hash this? He runs hill against bama, fans bitch cus they should have thrown. He throws against clemson, fans bitch, should have ran.

Re hash? Relax champ, we're having a discussion. There were many factors to that lost. Also I'm not bitching about anything. I am simply stating the facts. Hill was limited in the 2nd half. He was having his way with Clemson and it was obvious that we quit using him. Take that how you want. I was speaking of one game and pointed out something we were obviously successful with until it was limited. We lost and I'm quite over that. I think you took my post the wrong way, but I'll still sleep well tonight.

Without a doubt in my opinion 2012, was the best team to end ranked liked 14th. Had to replace 3 OL in the swamp and was still in the game until Minter cramped up and DJ Welter came in for that series. Fla walked right down the field.
Somehow Lsu righted the OL issues almost immediately and played a great game against the gumps, who were being compared the Jacksonville Jaguars before that game. 400 yards+ no turnovers at night at home? Toughest loss yet for me.

But was the first sign that we were dealing with something different with Saban and Gumps.

Boyd played one of the most courageous games Ive ever seen for Clemson in the bowl game. Also the first sign that Clemson could play physical against the best in the SEC.

Agree that even if we wouldve beaten Bama, The Georgia game wouldve been close. They were outstanding as well.
But the Tigers wouldve been a slight Vegas favorite.

But no doubt that the SEC champion, whoever it was, wouldve stomped the hell of a undeserving Notre Dame team that wouldve struggled against middle of the pack SEC teams that year.

yep. I love Miles, but the clock management issues in a number of big games has probably taken 10 years off my life

You left off Mauck who did get a cup of coffee in the NFL and won 2 SEC titls plus a national title. His bullpen performance against UT in the 2001 title game was one of the most clutch in LSU history.

It most certainly does not. If Miles doesn't play ODBjr,Mett,Landry and Hill in 2013 does that mean their talent isnt on the team?

Its on the coach to not use a player's talent.
Talent is talent. Play time and contribution doesnt affect talent.

Exactly. Its on the coach if he doesnt play future nfl players.
If Miles never plays LF in 2014 does that take LF'S takent away? Hell no it doesnt.

How does someone see this in a different way? If Miles chooses to take LF'S carries away and give them to Williams, that in no way means LF'S talent is taken off the 2016 lsu team.

Webster was a wr in 01 what if hedve played then and never been a db? Just saying ppl that don't play do not affect the games on the field. Jamarcus Russell and Matt Flynn were on the 03 championship teams redshirt roster. Why don't they have rings?

The 2001 team could have played with anybody by the second half of the season. They won games while playing for something!

Tharold Simon was the weak link all season. Was even more frustrating watching him get toasted in the super bowl.

I hope he has a long and healthy career though.

I loved that 2001 team. Got smoked by Rexxy and laid an egg against ole miss. But down the stretch was fun as hell.

The Rohan to Reed game in Tuscaloosa
Auburn in December due to 9/11, onside kick and the band fighting the kicker. Hating Auburn was so much fun.
Tennessee in Atlanta. Don't forget we ruined their Rose Bowl trip.
