Why don't we do this on every possession? Also, how does Ben only have 6 shot attempts the entire game against nc state? The iso is a no brainier in my opinion. Opponents would most likely double team him leaving someone wide open each possession. No one in the country can hold down Ben 1 on 1.

Our offense is abysmal as it stands.

Because they sag off him and he doesn't shoot.

If the defender sags off of you 1 on 1 then you should beat him every time. Especially when you are the number one player in the country.

Ben maybe took 4 legit shot attempts today. Makes no sense at all.

33 - 3 pt attempts is not a recipe for success. That's weak sauce coaching.

Yeah I havent seen him even attempt a jump shot. I know hes not the greatest shooter but he isnt horrible. But he wont even attempt to shoot an outside shot no matter how far off the defender is.

Y'all are missing something here.....

We do ISO him. A lot. And that's why we get so many 3s. Which we miss.

Simmons today took 6 shots but also took 8 free throws, meaning he likely took another 4-5 shots (not sure if any were And-1s) and got fouled. But he always makes the right play. Other teams are counting on that. They are sagging off on help defense, which is making Ben make the kick pass to a 3pt shooter. That's what they want. The way to stop taking jump shots isn't to ISO your best player and let them go...that's what we are doing and it isn't working. Lazy coaching.

You have to have movement in an offense for it to be effective. Back cuts, screens away from the ball, pick and roll, post up options. That's how you have a good offense. We have none of that. I've seen better offensive sets, movement, and execution in junior high teams. Falls back on coaching. Not saying fire Johnny because I think he's a decent coach. He's just being lazy hoping that riding the best player in the country will win him games.

He also had 10-12 assists. He trusts that the other guys can make the wide open 3's he gives them. Simmons + Horsby might be a nasty combo. Drive -> Dish -> Auto 3.

I haven't seen much of the traditional iso when you have four players on one side along the parimeter and Ben 1 on 1 on the other.

We run a lot of 4 players along the baseline w Ben up top which is bs because it causes too much congestion.

Our 3's are jacked up a lot. I'd say most are not generated from Simmons.

if he could just knock down a couple elbow jumpers a game. and we've got to get him some looks in the low post especially if they want to put a smaller guy on him or double when we've got the likes of sampson, tq, hornsby, blakeney on the floor at the same time

We should have a rule that Simmons has to touch the ball on every possessions that isn't a fast break. He isn't getting the ball enough imo.

As a coach myself, I think that's pretty easy to do. Especially if you're trying to start with ISO play or a set offense. Simmons can drive and dish, immediately post up after, and go to work, or if they actually ran an offense it's very easy to pass, cut, and repost at the short corner or above the block. Now they will start to expect this eventually, then let him work off of screens away from the ball to get position. Zones are what make this difficult.

I do this when I coach lower levels of ball when the "big guys" aren't always coordinated or talented enough yet to truly post up. I'll motion my best guard (who is actually close to the same size or bigger than most of the post players, just like Simmons is) to the block and let him post up on a less talented player. Easy baskets.

ETA: I am nowhere near claiming to be a great coach and not bashing Jones...these just aren't exactly ground breaking concepts or anything.

Simmons first shot in this game was a jump shot and he shot an air ball. Great player but not a great shooter. That is supposedly what Blakeney was for. Oh well at least Blakeney won't be a one and done.

He's shot like four jumpers all year and hit zero. He needs to be confident to take enough to keep the defense honest.

State sagged and clogged to take away the driving lanes and daring him to shoot. At this point he's not a great shooter and to his credit he realizes that and, unlike some others under CJJ, won't shoot until one goes in.

However, he did look very passive. Reminded me of LeBron at Cleveland in that playoff game against the Celtics just passing it around the perimeter and never trying to make anything happen. Strange.

And overall, sloppy and undisciplined...and pretty disappointing. A lot like that trip to the Bahamas last year. I had hoped the Australia trip would help early. Looks like we still have a lot to learn.

Blakeney looked great before this trip. How about we give him some time before writing him off

He needs to start playing like the #1 player in the country, and start being selfish. The way JJ coaches we will be in the same boat we are in every game last year and every other year he has been here. "If only we that type of Player we could win it all" well now we have that type of player and a good supporting cast but no coach to coach them up. A monkey could coach them to do the things there doing and get paid a lot less.

AB had a bad shooting game. The dude is still shooting mid 40's percentage wise.

When there are 3 guys in the lane sagging off of you, you pass and get wide open 3's. I can assure you we won't miss that many wide open 3's again. When Hornsby gets back and people continue to sag...watch out.

People are not grasping the difference Victor and Hornsby will make. It's 2 starters...95% of teams would have more of s drop off than we've even had with 2 starters out. And oh yea, we lost in OT and on a last second shot. Very close to 5-0
