People have said great things about his defense, but Hickey was All-D in the SEC last year.

Quartermann also doesn't have a jumpshot. So, he would be there for his height and defensive/passing abilities.

Edit: Read more in the forum. I'm not reading too much into the PG situation now. Seeing Mickey start isn't as surprising, imo.

He's no so bad. It's pretty easy for me to like someone who tries to cover LSU Hoops decently.

I'll add myself to the "Hickey should be starting unless he did something stupid again" list.

I will be surprised if hickey isn't starting day 1. Not surprised seeing JOB at center. He is bigger than a good bit of teams centers. Against bigger teams he might not start there though

He hasn't done anything. Maybe Johnny just wants to play his best players. This is only good news. Johnny will play Hickey a lot. But now he has the luxury of resting his starters with quality depth.

I could see Mickey in there, but I just don't see Quarterman starting over Hickey. We shall see though. Good if true because we know that Hickey is good. If he beats out Hickey that's saying something big.

I'm glad most on here have the same feeling as me on the hickey not starting rumor I almost stopped reading that article at that point. I'm sure Mr. Quarterman is a fine player and probably has progressed alot. But hickey is proven and one of the better guards in the league

How many college teams have a "true" center?

it could just be for the season opener. we have flexibility to chop and change the lineup based on different factors such as who we are playing, who has the hot hand, who is practicing well, etc.

the fact that that group started the scrimmage tells me they have practiced the best. i wouldn't rule out coleman or odo from starting several games this year, hickey as well obviously.

I honestly can't see Quarterman or Mickey start. CJJ has been raving about Coleman's game all off-season, and he looked very good the other day in their scrimmages/practice. Even if that is the starting lineup, the top 5 players who will average the most minutes are:
JOB
Hickey
Martin
Coleman
Stringer

I personally don't think that's even up for debate.

Jordy told him about the lineup
Jordy got word from coaches
Hickey will end up starting but Quarterman will play a lot at both guard spots
Hand checking will be point of emphasis and that might give Quarterman more time instead of Hickey

I think it'd be the opposite considering that Hickey is faster than Quartermann.

CJJ likes to play the matchup...and there's going to be times where he wants to play the bigger guard.

That said, Hickey should be the regular starter.

I'll debate. When it's all said and done, I think the top 5 in minutes played will be:

JOBIII
Hickey
Martin
Mickey
Stringer

Coleman's a great "glue guy", but he's a tweener. Too short to be a 3, and not enough of a shooter to be the 2. He'll be an excellent player off the bench. IMO, while I think ultimately Martin turns out to be the better player, I think Mickey makes a bigger impact early. It might take a little while for Martin to adjust to being a 3 at the college level.

6'5 or 6'6 is too short to be a 3 in college basketball?

Maybe for freaking Kentucky but come on

Hickey not starting is obviously a bit of a surprise, but it bears repeating that given the style Coach Jones plays, everyone is going to see significant minutes. That is why it was so crucial to get 10 legit, scholarship players that can contribute in some role for at least a few minutes. This will likely be the deepest LSU team since 2001.

If all of those starting 5 work out with Hickey and coleman coming off the bench, we will be really damn good.
