Benny can't score outside of 3 feet. He can't finish with his left hand. He really needs to work on his midrange game if he's going to be all, that. Scouting report on him will be easy....good effort to get back in it but overall disappointing

Does Johnny Jones do anything on critical possessions? He he is the most uninvolved in-game coach I've ever seen
-----

Yep. Just sits back and watches. Never a designed play.

You saw the disparity in coaching at the end of the game. MU ran a play designed to drag Simmons (LSU's only post player) out of the lane to give the guard a chance to attack the lane off a screen. They got the foul to win the game.

LSU's end of the half/game play is literally "here Ben (or Josh). Do something"

"Simmons Absolutely dominant all game but deferred at the end."

You can't be dominant if you're no threat to score outside 3 feet.

Just stop you already showed with your last post that you have no clue what you are talking about. Ben had 20/20/7 that is dominating the game.

Jesus Christ! He had 21 pts and 20 rebounds and was 9/11 from the line. Why settle for jumpshots if you don't have to? You're the same bozo that said he can't finish with his left hand. He's left handed! At minimum he finished 9 FTs left handed

That's how good this kid is. The average moron can't tell which hand is his dominant hand

Agreed with everything but this! Did you watch the previous game when Jones was mic'ed. You could hear him stressing rebounding!! AND admonishing guys for lack of intensity on half court defensive sets!!! I was SHOCKED!!

Just got home from the game. Fantastic finish. A lot of fun to be at.

The offense looked like it had so little movement compared to Marquette's. Honestly, Marquette looked like a much better team. They had the size to match LSU and used it.

The refs were far too whistle happy.

Woj needed to get a T. Dude was 6 feet past his line. Looked like John Brady out there.

Simmons is a fricking stud. Enjoy him while we can. He will go down as an all time great. I do wish he and the guards would have attacked more at the end when their bigs were in foul trouble.

Great atmosphere. Lots of LSU fans. Even more Marquette fans.

Definitely didn't think there was half as many Marquette fans.

To other posters...just because CJJ doesn't scream and yell doesn't mean he isn't involved. He stands for 9/10 of the game. What do you think he's doing? I sat 30 feet away from him, he talks to players the entire fricking game. One possession, Gray fouled Fischer for a 1 and 1....their guard goes to the line and makes the first. Jones then points out the wrong guy is shooting. The refs were idiots and changed the call....do you know why CJJ waited to tell the refs after the kid shot? Because it's a technical and Johnny was being savvy. He gets way too much flack

Coaching:

We don't have it.

Never have I seen such panic at a one point loss in their first road game against a major opponent. Marquette was fired up after a bad loss and played way over their heads. They are a poor 3 point shooting team but made a lot of them when it counted against us. On the other hand we are a 3 point team and had a horrible night.

It wasn't the coaching that made us miss wide open three pointers. It wasn't coaching that made us miss free throws. For the most part it was a bad game by everybody on the team except for Simmons and Gray. Just a little improvement in a lot of ways would have meant a win.

We will bounce back. Just because players are great in high school doesn't mean they don't have to adjust to college. We will get better. I knew we had weakness with interior defense and rebounding. I didn't expect us to miss so many jump shots. Blakeney and Patterson pulled the trigger way too many times on very long shots. I got slammed for saying Patterson wasn't a point guard. Well tonight he wasn't a very good shooting guard either. But I know he can shoot and he will have better games.

This place shows me that no matter who we have, there will always be haters.

Ben Simmons is left handed for the genius that said the scouting report is easy on him and that he can't finish with his left. The kid goes 21-20-7 and added 2 steals yet the downfall is he has no mid range?

First off, why shoot from 12 when you can dominate from 3? Shaq did it. Bill Russell did it. Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Moses Malone, etc... He had to be the big man tonight to help our defense. He can play any spot and tonight he had to cover our weakest spot and play the 4-5 area. If he needs to be the 1-2 then he can do that too.

He has a mid range and he can shoot from outside, he just doesn't have to yet.

The Lebron comments are garbage being as Lebron scored about 27 consecutive points before passing the ball off for the last shot and the only thing anyone does is turn him into a thing you say about a star player that doesn't take the last shot? He dominated the game and made a decision he thought would help the team win. He is young and will learn how to handle the end of the game better

Relax LSU fans, we actually have a RANKED basketball team, fricking enjoy it

That's the nature of forum's such as this. I was disappointed in the performance and I think we definitely lost to a lesser team, but I think it's something we need to get used to under CJJ.

He's going to bring in the players but he's going to lose a few each year to lesser teams in puzzling fashion. Sure I'd rather have a coach who could both bring 'em in and out-scheme the opposing coach but that's rare. If given the choice I'd take the guy that could bring in the talent every time.

But we were allowed to continue to settle for 3's early in the shot clock, that to me is coaching. And as for free throws we actually shot those pretty well last night. Ended over 70%.

What disappointed me the most was the defense. We just looked out of position defensively way too much both individually and as a team. Our footwork in guarding the dribbler seems to me to be poor too often. Lot's of work to do in that regard, something I had hoped the Australian trip would have helped with.

Was there last night. Turned out to be an awesome game after an ugly start. Result sucked, but other than that I had a great night.

- Simmons is the real deal, not much more you can say. Running out of superlatives.

- Ellenson from Marquette is legit as well, he was overwhelming ERIII with quickness and skill. I'm sure the ankle is still bothering him but Robinson continues to look a step slow out there.

- Once we went to the ultra small lineup with 4 guards and Benny things started to open up. Did a great job of creating turnovers with the press.

- We probably win this easily with even a normal shooting night from Blakeney. Once Hornsby and Victor are added into this mix, this team is going to be a force.

While the defensively we didn't play great, we did hold them to under 1 point per possession. Offense struggled early on. We needed to get Ben involved offensively earlier in the game. We are much better with the ball in his hands.

He played the entire game so I'm wondering how that will affect his play today.

We turned the ball over a lot, but when we had to dig in our heals and play D, it wasn't pretty.

No question, that's why I had zero problem with not calling a TO at the end...and what, let them set up their D and situationally sub...c'mon.

I'm not one of those guys who believes in all the fatigue and tired nonsense that goes on here all the time. IMHO way overplayed. But...in this case when you play back to back nights, it could. But I think will be fine. Ben plays those all the time in those high school and AAU tourneys.
