That sucks.

I do like how the nola article said, "and will instead take a job with another NBA team." and "Treloar said late Tuesday night that the job with another NBA franchise was one that he couldn't turn down".

LSU Basketball = NBA yo!

"Another" NBA franchise besides the Phoenix Suns, for whom he worked the last five years.

Getting warmer...this is a guy that has ties to the program and is more recent. Given the time constraints and the difficult position Coach T has left CJJ in, this hire will be quick and more low key. Very bad move IMO to leave at this point, I know everyone has to do whats best for their respective careers and no hard feelings when it comes to ones job to support and better their own families, but it just stings because all relatively recent news was he was happy to be back "home".

Nevertheless, I am not one of those posters that will just raddle off a prediciton and just use the "I have my source(s)" line. But a hunch tells me Ronald Dupree will be the assistant coach in the fall.

Reasoning
+ Relatable- Very young (34) and does very well at getting guys to listen and take what he has to teach in.
+ Pro experience- While this may not seem like a big deal, more and more recruits and players, that want to continue the game professionally want to talk and be with guys that they can relate to. NBA, D-Leauge, Overseas, the whole spectrum
+ LSU Guy/Tradition- While yes RL brings the same thing, but with RD12 you give a guy that is getting his first real start a chance to work with the players on an individual day by day basis. It is highly underrated the pride coaches have for their coaching trees.
+ Recruiting- Again with his age he will be a force from day 1. Also he still has I know for a fact ties with Kegler and Hicks (instate leans but still) because of how small the AAU scene is, and a family friend of the Canaans.
+ Cost

While to me its a no brainer simply because of the timing, just think this is how it should and will end up.

Big loss to the staff. Trealor was going to replace Musselman who (despite what others might think) had a big impact on last year's team.

LSU will have the money to find another guy. Jones has been pretty good at landing assistants. I just hope the next guy isn't just a "recruiter", but rather someone who is known to be more of a tactician (like Musselman and Trealor)

The whole tactition thing gets blown way out porportion on the board, and its mostly by football/baseball posters, that tune in for very few and select basketball games, see that and make a judgement thatfor whatever reason CJJ doesn't know the game, or doesnt have enough sets or the base isnt complex enough.

From personal experience, the guys have more than 60 sets in a given game they could run. Obviously they cant run them all in one game, and many are off the same basic set, princinple, or flow.

Once you get past the midway point in conferences anyways with todays internet capabilites and software, the scouting is so exact, it just comes down to execution. I know for a fact on every occasion where we had "inbounds troubled", there was something called from the bench there wasnt just go out and play.

The timing is bad and that will hurt the scope of the search, but just think RD is the choice.

Hire Avery Johnson. It would be an upgrade from his current position.

I really did not think this was a good hire at all. Good for LSU and other SEC schools I guess, but do not think this will be a lasting hire past 3 years. The differences between the NBA and college are so huge. UA needed a guy that will keep the few instate studs that come through every once in a while, and falt out live in ATL for recruiting.

I dont think either of their last two coaches were bad at all, just believe both got caught in situations that were more political than performance or skill based, because both will always have HC jobs.

Offense isn't the concern. LSU is inefficient on that side of the ball, but they still score more than enough points to win games because their faster tempo=more shots=more made baskets.

Defense is where this team is going to miss a guy like Musselman and where we hoped Trealor would be valuable. LSU greatly improved their defensive efficiency last seaon. That was as big a reason as any for their good year, and IMO will be the difference between a good year next seaon and a possible great year.

Because of Jones' uptempo style I don't think LSU will ever be super-efficient on offense. But that's ok, so long as they can lock it up on the defensive end. If Dupree (who played for a good defensive coach in Brady) can be the guy who helps LSU accomplish that, then I'm all for him!

I agree 100% and could not have said it any better.

And yes one of the things RD12 did was work his arse off on both ends. Very good demeanor for both a leader on the floor and a coach on the bench.

What I think will really help this team much more than last years team is the improved guard play. People knock Josh Gray for a lot of things, but he was one of the leaders, and coming from JUCO it is a lot harder transition than most understand.

Just more depth and for the first time I feel good about our rotation and our ability to play multiple guys at different positions and feel comfortable about it.

Wish Epps would not have had the injury he had, because I thought he was the missing piece. But with Robinson's improvements and noticeable weight change, saw him the other day in person, he looks better, the depth is there.

We also have an addition by subraction from the foul line, and a more balanced offensive attack. When you have the ability to have a lineup where you have 5 guys that are all between 6'4-6'10, they can all run, they can all guard multiple positions, and they can all spread the floor in different ways, it makes for a unique chance.

Damn. Where's Ricky Broussard, Bitch Pierre, etc.

Someone that loves it around here and wants to be at LSU.

This Kate in the game I guess we'll have to find someone from the NBA that was in a fired staff.

You don't replace a guy like Treloar with Dupree. I don't think he's ready. CJJ has done a good job of bringing in top assistants and he should do so again now.

This sucks, frick Treloar, what an a-hole.

As much as I want to call him a snake, I kinda support John on his desicion. Anyone who has met him (I have) knows how great of a person he is. An assistant coach isn't going to break us, it sure would have been comforting to know that John was working with the team, but it might just work out better for the both of us. I'm so jacked about Ben Simmons btw 6-10 240!!!!!!

You dont and are not. When would he be "ready"? The guy has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is a coach our current players will look to and respect. The way he communicates and his deamenor are great for younger guys.

I understand CJJ has done a great job getting assistants in, as i have said given the timing and flexibility, the move makes sense.

Could not be more wrong, but thanks for showing some class, Coach Treloar never turned down better paying and more high profile jobs to stay at LSU before

The worst part is Jones really really needs a good assistant coach. He needs someone who can consult and advise during games and help prepare game strategy because we all know that appears to be a weaknes.

The issue is the timing. How can you not see that?

I definately can and agree its not a great time, yes in hindsight obviously better had he never taken the job earlier. But its not during practice in the fall, its not during the season before NBA play, its the summer.

So yes disappointed, everyone should be. But merely pointing out I dont think it was him scorning LSU, more so doing what was best for him, he was second chair, dont know what to say.
