Baseball Team Question..?

Is the ball team dominant this year? Please note that I am not trying to flame, for I have not seen or been able to follow any games this season. I have only seen final scores. Of course, I know that this time of year the playing field is leveled by teams trying to settle in and brush the regular season dust off. I was just wondering what this team was going to be able to accomplish with the pitching. Is AR the only legit pitcher we have (starter that is)? OR has a new guy come in and shown promise..? Don't worry about the bats, they will come.

This ball club would be similar to the 2001 team, lost ALOT of great players, however have many great players return. The pitching is going to be more patched up this year meaning roles will not be "set" early on.
This team is still a top the WEST in my opinion and the bats are going to heat up big time with the warm weather.
Ross and Bourgeois are both legit starters, but they are going to have their ups and downs. Ott and Ranaudo I would call dominant.

He's currently nursing an elbow injury, but it's not too bad. Bourgeois and Ross have both started twice and have looked pretty good. They are not AR though.

They both looked good the first weekend. Not so much against W&M. Ross can be dominant at times (Ole Miss 09) but he's been the poster boy for inconsistency since coming to LSU.

It's early, offense will be fine, defense is looking good (Dean looks comfortable at 1B), pitching will decide how far this team goes. Without Ranaudo it will be difficult to get out of regionals or to have success in Omaha without that dominant guy. If Bradshaw, Bourgeois, Rittiner, Moormann, Reed pan out will determine success of this team - their only going to get better as season goes along. Like I said, it's early and SEC is looking to be pretty competitive this year.

That W&M team is pretty good. I think it had more to do with their hitters than our pitcher's performance. They were a very surprising club.

You can't label a baseball team dominant or not when it's March 1.

I agree they are a very good ball club. Maybe the second best in the state of Virginia. However their hitting prowess had little to with Joey Bourgeois' five walks in four innings. He simply didn't look sharp on Sunday. But hey, everyone has a bad outing now and then and I'm not writing the kid off this early in the season. Hopefully he'll bounce back this weekend.

Once the weather warms up, LSU baseball starts to morph into this juggernaut no one can stop. Pitchers get a better feel of the ball and its easier to pitch in weather you've pitched in your whole life rather than cold, windy conditions we've seen early this year.
Ball will start to carry also.

He makes me so nervous....lots of pitches get too high up in the zone and across the fat part of the plate...has gotten lots of breaks from the baseball gods so far...but thankfully he keeps gettin it done, just hope that streak doesn't die.

my take this year:
Outfield better defensively than last year.
L. Landry's bat is once again struggling, and he will be in a fight for his job with Dishon all year
T. Watkins looks great so far. His bat is really heating up and he can cover some ground in the OF
M. Mahtook is doing what he did last year a solid outfielder and a good hitter for avg.
B. Dean He is a step back from ochinko at first(still doing good just doesn't have the quickness), but his bat has started out hot this year unlike last year where he slumped
Hanover a great defensive player, however really needs to start hitting. Looks to be struggling
Nola is similar to mahtook great in the field and a decent at bat
Delatte so far seems to be a good replacement at 3rd but only time will tell if his defensive skills can match hanovers(or helenihi for that matter) I think he will have a good year at the plate.
Gibbs is one of the best catchers in the nation, and his batting looks to have gotten better. Looks like he has added some homerun power to his bat.
Pitching is maybe the biggest question mark with plenty of underclassmen to get significant innings. Ranaudo one of the best pitchers in the nation(heard from a source he is not hurt bad, just slept on his arm and had a little bone bruise. Expect him back next weekend at latest the Kansas series) Ross looks to have clinched his spot in the weekend rotation. I expect he will only get stronger as the year goes on. Bourgeois looks good, but sometimes struggles with control(still early and doesn't have a lot of innings under his belt) The pen looks to be solid with Bertuccini, Ott, and the freshman Rittner. Ott is the best closer in the nation. Rittner looks to have some real potential at a starting, middle relieve, or closer position. Reed has also shown some potential. Looks to me like we have a great team. You never know who will step up and be the next star. Anything short of Omaha would be disappointing.

The potential is there though it's far too early to tell. If AR returns to last year's form(and his current unjury is called minor so let's hope)there are plenty of signs that the rest of the pitching staff will wind up being above average and the bullpen may be the best ever with Ott, PB, and the surprising freshman Reed. Offensively, this club will get better and better and has two true All-Americans in Dean and Gibbs. Like I said, it's early but the potential to dominate is there.

I dont know if we'll have enough pitching this year to do what we did last year. A-Ro and Bourgeois will really have to step it up. They've looked pretty good so far but consider the teams they've faced
