Right that's my point . If Fraley can go in the top 2 rounds then Deichmann has some hope. I really think he has a big year next year.

He doesn't profile well anywhere on defense.

That's not accurate. He doesn't play great defense right now. But his athletic ability, combined with the generally better fielding coaching and ample time to practice mean that how he plays currently doesn't mean quite as much as his hit tool does.

You do not see many home runs in the BB Core Bat era like the one he hit way out of straight away CF, about 420+

Doesn't really matter. Assuming he continues to improve at the plate like he did late in the season, his bat and athleticism would play at a corner OF if he couldn't cut it on the infield somewhere.

I don't think that power number is an exaggeration, but it does make him one of only a handful of returning college players with that type of power. Seth Beer being probably the best returning player next year.

Exactly some team will stick him in LF at worst just to get his bat in there.

Gonna throw this out there but meaningless numbers say that either Romero, Nick Coomes, or Josh Smith need to be in the starting lineup next year.

By my count Mainieri teams have a 261-90 (.743) record with at least one Catholic High player starting and 198-92 (.683) record without. Quick somebody tell Moscona.

Re Deichman. Hit the ball. Baseball will find a position for you even if its laying down behind the pitcher's mound.

That's pretty awesome. Smith is doing well in the wooden bat league he's in right now. (Danville Dans of the Prospect League)

Coomes is a DH candidate, he was VERY error prone at LSUE, but crushed against an admittedly weak schedule.

From what I found on Twitter (not proud of this) he's enrolled and taking classes at LSU, so not sure that he's actually playing summer ball, at least in one of the bigger leagues. It's still possible for him to be on a team like the Acadiana Cane Cutters in the TCL, but I haven't seen him on their roster.

It looked like Hunter Kiel, Nick Coomes, Matthew Beck, Will Reese, and the pitcher from Texas were all on campus already. There may be more though. Smith and Slaughter are playing summer ball in wooden bat leagues.

Zach Hess was a top 50 high school player and has one of the nastiest sliders coming out of high school this year and will sit 93-94 mph. There is a chance Dunn can't keep him out of a Sunday spot

Adam, you and MOT I think are the most knowledgable on here regarding lsu baseball and the talent on the team so if you had to compare Hess to a recent signee, who would he compare to? So incoming Nola, Gausman, etc?

Thanks

He reminds me Gausman to an extent coming out of highschool. Long lanky frame with a high leg kick and downward movement. Hess has more of a 3/4 slot arm angle where Gausman would come more over the top.

As a senior in highschool Gausman was sitting 96-97mph with a great changeup while Hess is usually 93-94mph at the moment with a better slider.

I think Hess will be an extremely great college arm, out of the class he's the most ready. He has a great head on his shoulders and comes from a very knowledgeable baseball background.

As always, you da man. Although I am not a Mainieri fan, I can say this team overachieved. I think of this year with the 08 team. I think the graphic was 29-16 then went 16-5 down the stretch. But I expect big things next year. I would say cws finals or bust. Similiar to the pressure on football this season with all of the returning players and making the final 4.

not saying he will stay but not saying he will go it is up in the air but he will not play SS in pro ball. what else does he have to prove? if he stays he could have a bad year and not get drafted at all (might i remind you of Ibarra, got drafted in 32nd round stayed and didnt get drafted at all after SR. year). also, being a SR. he could go even later just because he has nothing to fall back on (like a sr year) i wouldnt be surprised if he does leave.
