Yeah, all of whatever you just aside, several other schools consider baseball their #2 sport if you automatically consider football #1 (which it is).

Miss St. and OM absolutely put more focus on baseball than basketball.

Ok... does that detract from the initial assertion that LSU should expect to be hosting a regional, and frankly be one of the national seeds every season?

We surpassed Miss State in the late 80's as the preeminent SEC baseball program; we have 7 CWS titles to their 1. Ole Miss never challenged until recently. We made this "our" sport over that stretch, and never de-emphasized it.

Look at it this way- a national seed is top 8. A regional host is 9-16. Basketball equivalent would be a 1 to 4 seed in March Madness annually.

Are we, or are we not, the baseball equivalent of Duke, UNC, or Kansas in basketball? Do you NOT think those teams enter every season with the expectation that they will be a high seed in the NCAA tournament, that being something like a 10 seed would be a disappointment?

If that's the case for those programs, it should be the standard we hold LSU baseball to also. We shouldn't even be conceding that we can't compete for the SEC title vs Arkansas, Vanderbilt etc.

I'm directing this towards that large portion of our fanbase that struts around like peacocks, bragging about our 7 national titles and claiming we're the best program in America. If we are that, then we need to BE that consistently. Otherwise, we're acting like Kentucky basketball fans, boasting about their history when they can't win the SEC anymore.

Agree. Without a huge win streak and/or SEC tournament high finish we travel

Host? They are on a path not to even be in any regional. Only path may be to win the SEC tournament, if they even qualify for that,

I am talking about expectations for each year not this particular year as it currently is. I know this year we are not hosting.

I wasn’t responding to your overall statement. I was only saying that one aspect of your statement was incorrect.

If by hosting you mean going play somewhere else as a 3 seed then Yes we will definitely host!

Honestly, this is LSU we're talking about. We should be a Top 8 seed every year.

Vandy doesn’t consider basketball #2 (probably considers baseball #1).
Miss St. doesn’t consider basketball #2.
Florida likely doesn’t consider basketball #2.
Ole Miss doesn’t consider basketball #2.

That’s a dumb statement. Baseball is the #2 sport at a ton of P5’s, especially in the SEC.

You're nuts.

Of the schools you listed, only Vandy may consider baseball #2, because they don't do ANYTHING in football.

You're mistaken and so is the guy you responded too. Few Schools consider baseball ahead of basktball, even in the SEC but the 3 oft he 4 he listed would, though Vandy would consider basketball #2 because they just don't care about football and Baseball is probably #1.

Baseball/basketball at Florida flip flop for #2 but it is probably baseball right now but usually basketball.

I work with a lot of Ole Miss and Miss State fans and all of them prefer baseball to basketball.

But those schools are all anomalies.

I agree a majority of P5 schools don’t worry about baseball like LSU does, but there are plenty of other schools, especially SEC schools that put a lot of emphasis on baseball.

That is true. But even still it is rarely the #2 sport consistently.

Lunatik gets it

LSU claims to be the premier college baseball program in the nation.
If that is the case, hosting a regional (being top 16) annually is a bare minimum; like I said we should expect to be a national seed (top 8) every year.

I don't care that the SEC is competitive; that reminds me of the SEC in football in the 2000's. SEC had a pile of teams ascend (LSU, Fla, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia, etc), but when Alabama got Saban, they stopped that shite. Sure, there would still be a team or 2 that made runs, but it was Bama at/near the top every year. Even during Kirby's run, Bama beat them regularly in the SEC title game.

LSU is supposed to be "that team" in baseball.
