I’m sure most athletes go to college hoping of making it to the professional level. I’m really glad a lot of them do finish their degrees and have a back up plan if it doesn’t work out that way. I was just looking through some of the recent majors and I saw a lot of general studies and sports admin. I’m sure they get good jobs after. I know a few of the guys I hung out with that were athletes are working at successful businesses and a few became teachers/coaches, and one is currently working his way through law school to become an agent. I do wonder if there would be other majors that Lsu could start offering to give some of them a higher paying job. Like some type of operator at a plant, instrument technician, or something along those lines. Most of my friends that are doing those are making pull in 6 figures a year. I know it’s a 2 year degree at most places but LSU could offers something similar as 4 year degree. I’m sure many other students would be interested in something along those lines as well.

I’m an operator at a refinery. It’s a good job. I make hell of a lot more than a teacher. It would set those guys up for a good life if they are willing to put in the work.

I ran into a lot of athletes in the business college, a couple turned me on to some easy A electives that they took.

There was a scene many years ago. Freshman day at fall football camp. The 3 or 4 really smart guys had left the room. Coach says: How many of you guys registered in engineering? Hands go up. Chemistry? Some hands. Pre-med? More hands. Aeronautics? Some more hands. Then coach says, "Yeah, well bullshite! None of you have the grades or study habits for that stuff. Get down to the locker room and the equipment manager will tell what classes you're enrolled in!"

Yeah.. I’m gonna guess “most” is an overstatement here.

They can choose literally any major that LSU offers.

They do. It’s called “engineering”.

This is a troll, right?

Haven’t seen that many athletes majoring in engineering. Pretty demanding curriculum to add on top of the practice, travel & game commitments.

Marcus Spears was a CM grad, not that he needs that degree now.

They instituted the sports administration major because general studies was too taxing.

Yes, watching YouTube all day while earning $60k/yr can't be too bad.

You have to consider that most major programs like LSU football don't WANT these kids taking really time consuming classes and majors. They want them to be able to keep their GPA eligible while dealing with the demand of playing major college football.

I'd have to think it's higher than 60

It is. I was just low-balling to watch YouTube as 90% of your day.

I had a med school tenant in NOLA who had been a tutor for the athletic department at Tulane as an undergrad. We talked about this and he said, "With the work schedule between practice, weights, and film study, I wouldn't have had the time that I had to study to graduate." "Most of those guys are way smarter than people think."

I had a calculus class with Bert Jones' younger brother, Ben. He was majoring in electrical engineering.

I would say that a PTech degree is not as demanding as engineering...
