I'll try to bring some sense in this hiring of coach "O."

First, there is little doubt about his ability to recruit but then, LSU always recruits well. Secondly, nobody can doubt his abilities on the defensive side of the ball. LSU will field a nasty defense and everyone knows it.

Thirdly, you guys are selling him out too soon. He has matured as a coach and I'd bet the house he will leave offensive coaches alone to do their job. This is huge if you ask me.

Les Miles was stubborn and so was O back in his day trying to micro manage every part of the game. The difference as I see it is simple. Orgeron will no doubt keep his hands on the defensive side but will stat out of the offensive side except for big decisions at crucial points in a game.

I hope he fails only because I am a MSU fan and want to beat you but I fear he is going to get LSU back to what Saban did while at LSU. Regardless, the Lsu / Bama games are soon to be quite fun.

I hope he stays out of the defensive side of things too, quite honestly.

This guy gets it. Thanks for posting.

O learned some things from Pete Carroll, Jimmy Johnson, Sean Payton, and even Lane Kiffin and Miles. Mainly he learned what he should have done differently as a head coach.

The argument I hate is "you hired a D-line coach. Coach O could have been a defensive coordinator anywhere! Is more acceptable to hire a D.C. but he figured he was qualitied already so he might as well just stay with the line.

He's ready.

None of the above changes the fact that Alleva ran a pitiful search.

I'd be pissed if he kept his nose out of the Offense or Defense. He is a HEAD Coach. He needs to be in the game on BOTH sides of the ball. If not, he isn't Head Coach material yet. He's going to be fine.

I don't normally upvote posts from MSU fans, but I agree with this.

It's no fluke to me that Coach O and Ensminger broke offensive records the very next game after Les was fired. We just simply called plays in the playbook we wouldn't normally call, keeping the defense honest. I think both our OC and D.C are head coach material, so coach O's job isn't too hard to me if they do their own jobs well and we continue to recruit at the top 10 level

It doesn't make sense no matter what spin is used, but nice effort anyway.

Let your coordinators coach, you are paying them enough money.

It has worked for Dabo at Clemson.

What? Ed orgeron has never in his life been a defensive coordinator. He is a good dline coach but we habe no proof he is this great defensive coach. If he was well thought of as defensive coach, he wouldve been getting DC offers.

Opinion. There is no proof he has matured.

No great coach just leaves his other coaches alone. Thats just made up rant bullshite.

Les Miles was stubborn and so was O back in his day

One of these guys is one of the winningest coaches in SEC history and the other had the worst tenure in ole miss history.

I hope Ed Orgeron has learneed from his ole miss days and i hope he has the best tenure in lsu history but imo he isnt qualified for one of the most pressure filled and difficult jobs in cfb.
We just hired a coach that has never ran a successful offense, defense , or program. Lsu should be above that.

again i hope coach O has great success at lsu and i dont fault him for being lsu's head coach. i fault that joke of an ad.

How on earth do you know what he learned?

Uh thats what he was. 29 of his 32 years of coaching has been as dline coach.

bullshite. He wouldnt get DC offers anywhere. My god. Please enlighten me why he would choose to be a dline coach over being a DC. Thats absurd.

he's ready

Proven by what? Losing to a 14 point underdog at home while they were missing tons of defensive starters?

Stop saying career dline coach couldve been a DC anywhere because it makes you sound stupid.

So you are saying Coach O is Mike Tomlin?

Mike tomlin had been a defensive coordinator in the nfl. He was also considered a gamble when he was hired.

With the talent coming into the sec west and the amount of good programs in the west(6 west programs have a top 10 finish since 2012) lsu cant afford to hire gamble that could set back the program. We are widely considered one of the 10 best jobs in cfb and we hired one of the least qualified coaches in big 6 history.
I dont fault Coach O for this. I fault our AD that refused to do his job and have a real coaching search.
Im happy Coach O got his dream job and the conversation he had with his mom once he was hired was realy heart warming but imo lsu should hire proven winners from now on. While lsu is one of the best jobs in cfb its also very hard and stressful. Coach O has done nothing to prove he is qualified to be lsu's head coach.

I hope Coach O has the best tenure in lsu history.

Oh look the typical O hating LSU fan; I hate the O hire because he talks funny and he can't be smart like me. He sucked at Ole Miss and he always will. Look how smart I am; I jump in every O conversation to regurgitate how dumb all the Cajuns are.

Dabo Sweeney career wide receiver coach. But hey coaches don't learn anything while they are around other members of their profession I guess.

Not close to the same situation.
Dabo actually ran the offense and called plays during his interim tenure. Dabo wasnt 55 years old.
When Clemson hired Dabo they had zero top 20 finishes from 2000- Dabo's hiring. Clemson hadnt won a conf title since 1991.

Lsu had 2 national title game appearances in the last 9 years and had 7 top 15 finishes in the last 11 years.

Lsu and clemson were not on the same level. Also, its pretty crazy to hire a coach in the hopes that it works out like the 1 time it was successful.

Clemson could afford to gamble on a coach because they play in the acc.
The acc has only 1 other football program that is a consistent program.

Good he should've gone to a lesser program and proves he had learned something and not at a program where winnimg 9-10 games in an underachievement. Its amazing how all of you think O has transformed into this great coach yet smaller programs werent even trying to offer Coach O a coordinator position.

I hope Coach O has the best tenure in lsu history.

clemson prior to hiring Dabo
1 top 15 finish from 1990-2009
2 top 20 finishes from 1990-2009
O acc titles from 1991-2009
lsu prior to hiring coach O
2 national titles
2 national title game appearances in 9 years
7 top 15 finishes in 11 years
4 sec titles since 2001
4 top 5 finishes since 2003
Stop acting like the 2 situations are remotely close

He didn't say that the situation at each school respectively was the same.

But, he does have a point- Dabo was a career Coordinator, and so was EdO.
