Terry Bradshaw was also ridiculed for not having brains to play the QB position. See Hollywood Henderson's quote about Terry not being able to spell CAT even if you spotted him the C and A.
To be fair, this is JR's first season as a pro. You will get a better idea of what he will do at this level in his third season. Also, as it has been brought up many times, it's hard to do well without a good OL and WR's who are able to get to get open and catch the ball.

The most positive reflection of JR was by his coach, Kiffin. Those were the first statements by Kiffen, that I am aware of, that indicated JR is playing up to his expectations in a game situation.
Kiffin, in his press conference, detailed all the mistakes and miscues of the Raiders. Then he mentioned Russell as one of the positives. He said that Russell played pretty well and was not the problem.
Unfortunately I didn't get to watch the fourth quarter so I didn't see his most productive play.

The stupidity on this board never fails to amaze me
I just don't understand it. Its like Jamarcus wronged some of these "fans" in a past life or something and they're taking retribution via message board. He represented LSU well on and off the field; was not a showboater; won 11 games and a Sugar Bowl; had one of the best statistical seasons ever for an LSU quarterback and some of these people act like he stopped by their house on his way to football practice just to kick their dog.
frick man if he pisses you off so much go start your own thread about it.

i honestly think when the "matt flynn is better" crowd was proven wrong, all they had left was lashing out at JR
*ETA: and racists

Well, after watching him play at LSU, it became pretty evident. Also, after hearing him speak at the National Championship game, I find it very hard to believe you can lead a football team without being able to speak the English language.
Once Jamarcus becomes consumed with wealth and realizes he's not cut out to be a NFL quarterback, and thus fades away, get back to me.
No clue.

Guy retreats 20 yards to take a sack vs. miss state last year and you don't hear boo. jamarcus takes one five yard sack and it must be because he's half a tard that will never succeed in football or in life. Where's the fricking justice?

JR makes like 4-5 DEs miss against AU, takes 1 sack late and BOOM...is a professional sack taker

And how many times had we seen him throw the ball 40 yards with people all over him.

how many times have i seen him make a great read and put the ball b/w 2-3 defenders, but b/c of the angles of the defense it was behind the WR and then BOOM, he's inaccurate as frick

The poor bastard (Russell) plays in a sorry-arse offense. If you are going to lose like that and have a shitty OL, then put that behemoth in the shotgun formation 70% of the time, and let him hand off to mcfadden from there. I think he does alot better in the shotgun. Gives him more time to decide b/c of those bullfighting (ole') OL always letting someone through the line.
Also doesn't help his receivers suck. The TE is probably his best/ most reliable receiver and that's a frickin sobering thought.

Hope that wasn't directed at me or just b/c i was the last poster in the thread.
People who are bashing the kid and comparing him to Cutler, who is in his 3rd year with Denver are clueless.
I just wanted to throw that out there.

nah, from a few other posters in this thread and the other one on MSB.

that's part of the problem though...I don't think any fan wants to see a player fail, but they do want their rival message board poster proven wrong, so it spins out of control. Frankly I totally ignore baseless, ignorant opinions and feel no need to respond to them.

I actually watched that whole game last night, and I think the Raiders offense will be ok in time. Lelie and JR seemed to have some chemistry after only being together a week, the RBs and TE should help. Kiffen just needs to take the wraps off the passing game earlier. The D....

Now he's a POS? What has he ever done todeserve that kind of name calling. Is it because a black person is making all that money to play sports while you have to work your arse to get minimum wage?

I wouldn't call that much of a skill, seeing as he'll hardly ever need to throw the ball 2 miles, unless the NFL decides to change the size of football fields.
Proves your football knowledge. Arm strength is not just the ability to throw it for a mile, its the ability to make all kinds of throws with enough zip. It also gives him an advantage when his recievers arent getting enough separation so he could zip it in a tighter window.
quote:
SKILL would be more like having touch on the football, accuracy, etc (Which he lacks)
Touch? Watch his junior year at LSU to learn what a college QB's touch throws are supposed to be. Watch his game against SD to see that touch throw for a 30 yd touchdown against an AFC runner up defense. Accuracy? Just watch last night's game and see some of the throws he made. If that isnt accurate, then Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are bum NFL QBs.
quote:
He lacks most of the SKILLS needed to be a successful NFL quarterback - and the main two being LEADERSHIP and DECISION MAKING.
Leadership? Says who? Have you ever been on the field with him? Then why is it that every player that's played with him has called him a good leader? Wasnt he voted a captain for last night's game?
Decision making.......Any QB in the league has made a LOT of bad decisions, especially in their first few years. Hell, Peyton Manning threw 20+ INTs his first season, and after 10 years in the league, he had a 6 INT game against the Chargers last season. JR didnt do anything horrible yesterday. Yes he did fumble, but thats about it. Every time they got going on they got negated by penalties.

Sorry man, I didn't know you were so sensitive on this subject. It's funny you mentioned Tom Brady as a "bum" NFL QB. That's the best pun I've heard in a while! He sure is a bum now! LOL!

Every single player that's played with him said that? Well, I feel like a moron now. Why didn't someone mention that earlier, before I humiliated myself on the internet!?!?!? What if my mom sees this thread? Yeah, you're right though, Peyton didn't do so well his first pro season. Maybe I'm being a little hard on JR. How long can he be terrible for before I start to make fun of him?

Reading degrading comments towards an LSU great isnt exactly an exciting read.

A little? Give him a couple of years to grow into a very good NFL QB. All he's been showing is signs of improvement, unlike guys like Young and Leinart. The way he played last night is at the caliper of an average NFL QB, and thats his second start ever on what is most likely the worst offensive line and recieving corps in the NFL.

You make some good points, my friend. But what would you say if I told you I was Bill Romanowski?
