I watched the game in the girls dorm at NSU at the time of the Christmas festival in Natchitotches. Archie had a special cast. Casanova went wild.

Bishop
1) I'm a 1969 Sulphur graduate, missed playing HS ball with your dad by a few years

2) My biggest memory of the 1970 game was when Archie Manning was forced/run out of bounds right in front of the Tiger bench and Cholly Mac.

Cholly Mac reached down to help Archie up, and pulled him up by the arm with the cast on it.

Does anybody have video of the LSU-Ole Miss game in '70? Any old game will do...I remember watching that game and Cassanova went wild!! the fans were throwing oranges on the field and going crazy. If I remember right, Cris Schenkel and Bud Wilkinson were calling the game on ABC. Back then there was no cable, of course, and a Saturday nite game was extremely rare. NCAA had a strangle hold on TV rights. ABC could show maybe one game per Sat and on rare occasions show two. Ah, the memories. Of course listened to John Ferguson on Sat nite during the season on KWKH in Shreveport. Lived in Bossier City (BHS '72).

So did Craig Burns and Ronnie Estay.

Archie Manning was a far more dangerous QB than Tebow.

I have to agree with that comment. Tebow has a full supporting cast, great line, backs, receivers. Archie was a one man team.

I was at the game...you have one big factor wrong.
LSU DID NOT GO AFTER ARCHIE, actually LSU showed a lot of class and on a couple of occasions that they could have HURT Archie, they were somewhat gentle.

I was proud of LSU for playing hard, winning and showing class...with who was likely the best QB to have ever come out of college...
It was a shame he went to a team with no system and no OL line.
Hard to perform when you are on the ground.

At the time of that game we were living in Michigan and our best friends were a couple from Mississippi. The wife was from Drew, Mississippi and a distant cousing of Archie. We went to their house to watch the game - everytime Archie got tackled or took any kind of hit, they were screaming that LSU was playing dirty. It got kind of funny, but then we put such a beating on the Rebs that it actually got kind of embarassing. Really great victory for the Tigers.
