While he has not set foot on campus, recruited his first player, or coached or won his first LSU game, the lightning strike of getting him on board, paying top dollar, removing the 'Les Clause', all points to Les and Alleva picking him off as a young potential rock star that could be given the keys the Tiger Football Car in a few years if his defenses perform. Of course, it is "waaaaay" too early for any of this, but this hire sure does have a different feel to it.

Aranda hire has the feel of a HC trying to save his own arse.

The targeting and hire of this guy feels different. Let's see what he does on the field, but the way that LSU went all out, and what is being said about Aranda from around the sports world indicate that this might be a young and very unique guy.

No it doesn't.

Head coach in waiting is a dumb concept. Hire a guy as head coach in waiting and he fails, what next?

Not a fan of "coach in waiting.". Also, I'd rather he leave and get his first head coaching experience somewhere else, then come take over when Miles leaves.

Your point is valid, but I've watched LSU coaching hires for a number of decades. Aranda has been on our radar and targeted for while, and by changing the "Les Clause" contracting position, and paying top 5 college assistant tells me something different.

I'm sure the removal of the les clause has more to do with the fact that the head coach almost got fired this year and no self respecting dc candidate would consider signing and being tied to les

Feels to me like Les Miles kicked Joe Alleva's arse in terms of public perception about a month or so ago and now has leverage.

Joe is on his heels having to make if appear that he isn't handcuffing Miles.

The winner is Aranda who gets the contract he wanted.

Nothing more than that, period.

I wish Texas would've never coined the phrase "coach in waiting."

Very overused and never right.

Feel is a personal thing. Has nothing to do with reality.

You think Les would hire his own coach-in-waiting?

No, it really doesn't.
Sounds like an imagination on peyote.

It absolutely amazes me how some people want to spin and manipulate their reasoning on the hire of Dave Aranda.
He was hired by Les Miles and Les Miles only to come here and be the DC coordinator.
The contract was done the way it was done to attract this young and upcoming coach to a top 5 program and reward him with a good raise in coming here.
But to say he was hired to be a HC in waiting here, is a little outrageous to say.
Give Miles and the Coaching staff some credit in addressing what they did getting him on board.

Hope not.

Needs to be a head coach somewhere else first.
