Not sure what you're shaking your head at. If you've tried this set up you'd know this as a fact! Its pretty great!

I have. It's not a fact. It's neither the best, nor the only way to do it, as highlighted several times throughout this thread.

Am currently watching the baseball game on GZ with my laptop connected to my TV via HDMI cable and sound through my surround sound system.
Does AppleTV offer anything better ?

It offers the exact same, unless your laptop and router has either wireless AC or gigabit Ethernet, in which case your laptop is a superior choice. The GPU in the AppleTV is very average compared to even low-end graphics cards from several years ago- it's unlikely you'll improve the picture quality by updating.

If you consider it "better" the AppleTV can be mounted to the back of your tv; it offers superior cable management, in some-to-most cases.

I'll get back to you on this in the next couple of days if no one else does. I leave my chrome
cast at my SO's more often than not.

I use Apple TV from my ipad. But since Safari doesn't support flash player had to download justin tv app ($8 or $9). Works fine. Occasional streaming hiccups and down time from jtv, but adequate for me

ETA: Last year jtv was pretty reliable. This year he's had one bad game that I know of. He's dodging the internet police, might get better.

I watched the game yesterday through Apple TV. I had the Geaux Zone app on my phone and it streamed it to my TV. The only problem was we lost the game.

I'll confirm that "choppy" is being generous. The refresh rate is probably once per second at best. The audio is smooth, but the video is awful (crystal clear, but still frames).

Watch game tonight on iPhone5 with GeauxZone app streamed to 65" flat screen via AppleTV ...worked really well with nice HD quality.

AirParrot application, installed on my Macbook Pro, can mirror my screen to Apple TV in HD, and sends sound as well. Make my GeauxZone feed full screen, and it's perfect. Works flawlessly.

GeauxZone app

By this, you guys mean the LSU Sports Mobile app + the $5 Video On Demand in-app purchase in addition to Geaux Zone right?

I'm oddly cheap. I didn't mind spending $40 for the season on Geauxzone, but I don't want to spend an extra $5 to add it to a mobile device when it's only going to be around for the remainder of the year.

yes. the premium app carries over each year though. if you are looking to save money, just do a 1 month subscription at this point, and maybe renew for a 2nd month. we are already 3 and a half weeks into the season, and the back end of the schedule is loaded with tv games. Of course this only applies if you are in the tv market.

I already bought the 4-month subscription (I watch it on my computer hooked to my TV). What's the state of GeauxZone in the future with the ESPN contract? Will they still broadcast non-aired baseball games?

...or has this been discussed ad nauseum and I need to search?

No one is 100% sure at this point. The most common response is that GeauxZone will be gone, but again we don't know any specifics or if there will be an alternative way to access games not on the SECN.

Thanks

I think I'm going to act like a real baller and drop the extra $5 instead of being a cheap arse. I've reached that point in my life.

I was watching/listening to the game on the way home. Caught the first 2 innings in the car!!
