We were ranked 1 or 2 in different polls to start 2007 season

LSU comes in at #14

I recall LSU being #14 in the 2003 preseason AP poll. And Phil Steele pegged us as a dark horse candidate to make a run at the BCSNC.

I'd be happy... I'm sure most would... if this year played out similarly.

The rant would melt if we lost to a shitty UF team.

well, yeah, that would suck. But 1 loss to someone and still winning the SEC enroute to the title would be mostly okay.

... btw, it was a comparatively shitty UF team that gave LSU it's only loss that year, too.

Why do we care, AP is irrelevant

I bet if we were ranked #1 you would find it relevant

Someone please correct me if I am off on this, but I cannot remember a year with 50% of teams in the top 14 with a first year starter at quarterback:

1. Alabama
2. Auburn
3. Oregon
4. Georgia
5. Florida State
6. UCLA
7. LSU

I believe Baylor has a first-year starter too.

And given the new playoff selection committee, the polls are irrelevant.

The AP made itself irrelevant years before the playoffs by removing themselves from the BCS formula.

So with the understanding that 8 teams in the top 14 have first time QBs, the end of the year results will be vastly different.

I know that no one has played a down yet, but is TCU really supposed to be that strong? Are they legit?

They should be really good. Their head coach recognized his offense was terrible, so he got the frick out the way and hired qualified guys to run it. I wish other head coaches were able to adjust to the times and adapt.

Yeah but it's gimmicky! Power pro style smash mouth grown man football blah blah

Exactly. Can't understand why people care, and especially before a single game has been played And given the new playoff selection committee, the polls are irrelevant.

Not really irrelevant. You'd be a fool to think these polls aren't used as a guideline to most, if not all, of the playoff committee. You think they just ignore them for weeks?

in 2003 we also were coming off of an 8-5 season and a bowl loss. It was also the last time we lost to Alabama, Arkansas, and Auburn in the same year

I listened to "The First Team" with Greg McElroy on Sirius XM Radio this AM. When asked who they feel is ranked too high in the AP poll, without hesitation they all said LSU. What say the Rant?
