The combination of

New bats, switched field orientation, and wind currents flowing straight in has killed Omaha.

It's quite sad

They might as well just get rid of the fences since the NCAA doesn't want any more home runs.

Does the direction that the new stadium faces and the wind have that much to do with the lack of home runs? Serious question.

If the wind is blowing in. Serious answer

the CWS used to be a lot of fun to watch, even when LSU wasn't in it.

now it's just awful, and has been getting to this point over the years.

there's no penalty for pitchers lobbing fastballs belt high over the plate. that's just a fly ball now.

From the time I was about 9, I remember watching the CWS regardless of who was in it every year. One summer I pretended to be a LF for OU named Chip Glass for crying out loud.
Rosenblatt had an atmosphere to it, an excitement. What's more is that the bats made it so the games were never over. Today's bats suck yes but the worst part is that this stadium sucks! They have lattice behind home plate! No atmosphere, no color, no energy and no way in hell you're hitting a home run.
Now you'll hear people say that gorilla ball was not real baseball and I agree, but what was wrong with the 7-6, 5-4 games we got with the bats in 09?

I remember this topic last year. The main reasons most TDers believed led to such a lack of power at TD Ameritrade were that the stadium sits downtown and at the bottom of a former trash dump, which does not have much of a breeze. Rosenblatt sat at the top of a hill and more out in the open, which allowed more wind to blow through and carry the ball. Also, the combination of the new dead bats and raised seams on the college baseball did not allow the ball to really carry well. The new ball should help, but I think TD will have to bring in the fences to combat the lack of wind that assisted some balls out of Rosenblatt.

I know this gets discussed every year, but I wonder how long before people get tired of the lack of home run production and start looking at other venues for the World Series.

Omaha has a contract to host the CWS through 2035. It was part of them agreeing to build the new stadium.

It's pathetic that the championship is played in a way that completely takes away a major aspect of the game.

Literally, the CWS is a totally different season than the regular season in a totally different way. UCLA is the prime example. A great team can stand no chance at TD Ameritrade because of their style of play, yet a totally rag tag/incomplete team can dominate the tournament. The new stadium does not have the magic or energy Rosenblatt had either. That place felt like a fans park and was welcoming. This place looks like they tried too damn hard to make an uber nice park, all the while forgetting what made the CWS at Rosenblatt so great. I cant wait to see the ratings for this years tourney. I have not watched a minute of any game because of the current situation. I used to watch religiously, regardless if LSU was in it or playing, during the summers. I'm hoping bad viewership and horrible ratings force them to change something as fast as they did the bats. What a crying shame the CWS has become...

The colored seats. The zoo in right. The unique scoreboard. On top of a hill. The Blatt had an identity and provided for a great atmosphere and great venue for college baseball's biggest event. TDA is everything the opposite and completely sucks.

Can't do anything about wind blowing in 30 mph. Even the old bats would make it difficult to hit it out
That's why Rosenblatt was such a launching pad, because that same wind was blowing out in the old park.

I will always cherish my memories of being there in 2009. Even if we win another title in the new park it won't be the same. NCAA wanted to turn the CWS into another corporate, sanitized event and they have succeeded.

Still can't believe they have no place for RVs anywhere around the park.

I remember Indiana hitting two absolute bombs last year that were caught at the track. The balls were crushed. I know that Kyle Schwarber, the No. 4 overall pick in the MLB draft, did hit two in the Big Ten tournament this year but the setup right now (bat/park combo) is absurd.

Not just to straight centerfield. A home run has never been hit between the 375 signs in the history of the ballpark. Ever.

Same here. I feel really fortunate to have been at that entire CWS in Omaha (save for one game) in one of the last years at the Blatt. That place was special and because of them killing it off, the it will never be the same regardless of the bats situation.

LOL at you all. So you're telling me that college baseball teams can't play small ball and move runners?

In the majors and minors ballparks all have different dimensions and different wind locations with different wind patterns.

This tells me that the problem is with the game of college baseball and not the stadium.
