While downvoting, please answer my question.

How does Alabama winning another National Championship help LSU?

I am willing to listen, but no one is offering an explanation.

Eh, not mad. Wish he had used them all. Maybe have frosh and non-2 deep rotation take instruction from roation/starters.

But if "non-practice" is used for rest, where rest is any of these:
A) tutor time
B) film time
C) any type of personnel evaluation

it's all good. There's no doubt we saw past LSU teams play both tight and tired. So far it's working, so not complaining too much.

only way it helps LSU is in additional shared revenues. That is far outweighed by the impact on the recruiting trail. We (and every other SEC team) are up against both the "Saban brand" and the "Bama brand". Another championship only makes things harder.

*to be fair, I only read the post on this page*

It does not help in any way and actually Alabama winning hurts LSU and the whole SEC because the recruiting edge continues to widen each year and makes Alabama only stronger

Any argument saying it is better for LSU if Bama wins the title does not make sense to me

I believe that I read that, because the bowl games occur while school is out, the NCAA allows players to receive a cash payment per practice, as compensation for their time? Up to some pre-determined maximum amount....

So, I'm sure there were some kids wishing "couldn't we have just had a few more walk-thrus/ film study meetings to max out that lil check, coach?"

ETA: "Maximum payment allowed" divided by 15(max. extra practices allowed) = payment per practice

Maybe, just maybe.....he wanted to give his players an extra couple of days with their families for the holidays? Maybe because they busted their asses all season long? Who knows, but they responded yesterday....that's all that really matters.

The bowl season practice/extra reps talk is the most over abused topic. If you played sports, you know that 3 extra practices after an entire spring, summer, and fall of practicing has no added value. These young guys will get plenty of relevant reps in Spring.

Like against UF?

Get out with this fricking pussy bullshite. Bama is bama because they work harder than anyone else.

I had a conversation with Laron Landry about Miles and Saban. Saban worked them harder in practice.

though some will still argue about it, to me there's no doubt that a Saban practice is much much more effecient than a Miles practice. So you'll get in more work with Saban than Miles no doubt. He's like a sniper school or BUDS where you challenge the mental and physical at the same time. Because... that's what happens in a game.

Right, and they just want it more than everybody else, right?

Or it is because they have better players at just about every position and walk in to the gray area on every known rule more than all other schools combined?

What would be accomplished in those three practices that won't happen during spring?

I don't care one way or the other, but mastery comes from an accumulation of experience and repetition.

For the younger guys, more practice would mean they were farther along in their progression towards mastery.

You guys are reaching here. Seriously. LSU practiced too much under Miles? That's just fricking ridiculous. Less practices didn't win the fricking bama or UF game.

Come on guys....

The players and [current] coaches said they were wore out on game days. I saw a number of 80 plays per practice? That is too much. There's something to it, even if exaggerated.

To me, however, it's about how much they get out of every hour on the practice field. If the players are running conditioning drills in October, it's a waste. If they come away after 1 day of practice and feel that they haven't learned anything new or are better prepared for the next opponent, it's a waste. Just standing around is problematic... A) that's not rest & rehab, B) they are student athletes, be better off doing schoolwork. They want to know every minute is being used; if the coaches are wasting those minutes, you'll have attitude and effort issues.

The tale of the tape for me is that every time we hear about so and so had a great week of practice, they suck in the game. Then some dude you never hear about looks like he's an all star. If the evaluation of a player (especially QB) don't match the performance on the field, then your practices aren't translating and are by definition inefficient.

A lot of people view bowl practice the same as spring practice. So, if a coach decides to use 3 less practice days during the spring, would that be smart? You don't need to have full pads for those 3 practices, but a simple walk throuch type day focusing on fundamentals can't hurt.
