LSU VS UNLV in 89

Listened to that game in my Mom's station wagon while she shopped. I was 13 and people thought I was having a siezure when Blanton made that shot!

College Bball in general was just so great back then.

Didn't Nakita miss the short turnaround against Indiana to make another final four? That one hurt.

cannot recall, but even if he did he is not to blame. our D blew it. we had a double digit lead.

Plenty of blame to go around. If I remember correctly, Fess Irvin missed a free throw, maybe the front end of a one and one, that would have iced it.

Totally blows my mind that LSU is incapable of putting together a successful basketball program. Winning sure beats losing! I was able to do '81 Final Four in Philly... What a trip!

Losing 40 games in 2 years is unacceptable for this program. The pregame video gives me goose bumps of what we had.

Anyone remember Neboshia Bukomirovich? Jose Vargas?

Had many good times at the Deaf Dome. We used to wait in line 3-4 hrs before the doors opened (2 hrs before the game) and get the best seats in house.

Tickets were in demand at the time so the administration started taking student seats away (GREEDY BASTARDS!). They'd wait for a game against a nobody team over Christmas break and take pictures of the partially empty student section and use that as their justification. Only problem is they never took pics of the entire arena for comparison.

Now they're begging students to attend.

Nikita missed his patented turn around fadeaway 6ft jumper from the baseline in 87 vs IU as time expired. Freakin heartbreaking. that was the game when Bob Knight slammed the phone at the scorer's table at the refs before halftime. And no technical was called.

Vernal Singleton was one of my favorite players on that team. That game with Loyola Maramount was unreal, Hank Gather (RIP) and Bimbo Cole vs CJ, Shaq and Stanley.

Haha. I think it was Bo Kimball if I recall correctly. But Bimbo Cole is an awesome hoops name anyway!

Awesome time to be an LSU Basketball Fan. The Cookie Man was an enforcer in the paint. The starting 6 were awesome that year. Trying to remember...

Ethan Martin - PG
Howard Carter - SG
Rudy Macklin - PF
Leonard Mitchell - SF
Greg Cook - C

Or maybe Macklin was hurt that year and Dwayne Scales was a starter.

Willie Simms - best 6th Man in the country.

What a team!

our basketball team is a fricking joke...I guess all the good athletes in louisiana only like LSU for football...we can't get the top players to play for us...and no one from out of state will come either. Trent Johnson is a terrible coach, he makes John Brady look like John Wooden.

Unheralded Freshman Blanton owned Kenny "Sky" Walker from Kentucky that day and will never forget the running fist pumps going down the floor after that layup.

How about Blanton snagging the air ball from Russel Grant and laying it in at the buzzer against Gtown in front of 60k (more??) in the Superdome.
