Actually, that was a pretty monumental upset at the time and A&M wasn't in the depths of mediocrity.
In 1995 A&M started the year ranked top 5 with a five plus year conference winning streak. We had also won five straight against LSU, a couple by very big margins before LSU cancelled that series after 95.
96 was a bad year but we came into the season ranked top 12 or before that USL loss put us in a tail spin and we finished 6-6. But in 97 we won the Big 12 south and in 98 we won the big 12 (back when that meant something).
So, yeah, that was a pretty shocking upset at the time. As an aggie, I still remember the sickening, on the verge of vomitting sensation I felt as I realized we were going to lose a game that seemed unimaginiable to lose. Just one of those nightmares when you keep hoping you will wake up.

There are MANY more Bama flags, hats, and Walmart Tshirt around Lafayete now than when I was growing up. Back then it was FSU, Miami, and Cowboys gear, some 49ers. It's a bandwagon town.
I can say the same exact thing about Baton Rouge in the early 90's.
Bullcrap. I moved to Baton Rouge in the early 90s from Lafayette. Absolutely NO comparison between the fan bases. I shouldn't really say that-- USL really had NO fanbase-- just bandwagoneers.

LA cannot afford and does not need all these 4 year schools and even worse multiple systems.
My biggest disappointment in Jindal is he lacked the balls to take this on

Y'all have a certain group of fans that you should be embarrassed about, but I guess you would rather act like they don't exist.
Kind of the same thing with LSU, don't you think?

Most people don't hate LSU or ULL.
All this "hate" talk on either side is centered around 10% at most, of those who consider themselves sports fans.
The LCD crowd is just being fed.
