The big concern is if Daniels doesn’t improve as a passer the rest of the SEC has got tape on how to contain Daniels, which puts a cap on the offensive production.

I am not all out on JD or all in on Nuss but if JD continues to struggle to push the ball downfield I expect him to be replaced. I think the message is clear from BK to both competitors regarding their shortcomings of this past season.
Again this season the most talented position group we have is WR and we are not stockpiling these guys to watch the QB hold the ball…

If he continues to average 200 yards and 1 passing TD per game LSU’s ceiling will be similar to this season.

With better and more consistent defensive and special teams play this year, LSU does not lose to FSU and A&M. It’s hard to say how the Georgia and Tennessee games play out if defense and special teams don’t put LSU in early holes and surrender a combined 90 points in those games. Given Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee are all replacing their starting QBs, nothing about the way the offense performed this year suggests the ceiling next season can’t be an SEC championship and CFP berth if the defense and special teams are improved. THAT’S where the real question mark is for LSU’s ceiling.

Okay so you acknowledge he can still get better with development and improve on his flaws.

You still have Nuss behind him too who you can put JD on a short leash anyway.

I never once said he can’t improve. The concern will be if he doesn’t improve.

Without the defense they don’t beat Auburn or Arkansas.

That was this years ceiling. LSU was right on the cusp, but clearly a tier below Georgia and tOSU. If they’re going to make the jump into that conversation, Daniels has to improve as a passer.

I’m not saying he has to throw for 6k and 60, but 4k and 30 is what it’s going to take.

Hooker is 25 and he is twice the QB JD could ever dream of being.

Yeah, after he was terrible at his previous stop before Tenn. It took him forever to develop and the right system to also.

Apparently the point went straight over your head.

I’m not sure how you think that contradicts my point. Had LSU’s defense and special teams played at that better level consistently, their ceiling this year would have been an SEC championship and a CFP berth WITH the offense they had.

Stetson Bennett passed for 116 yards and an INT on 6.1 yards/attempt in a 16-6 win over Kentucky. He did pass for 300 yards against Missouri but only completed 56% of his passes for 7.3 yards/attempt and no TDs while leading Georgia to only 26 points. He had only 140 yards passing against GA Tech. They scored 37 but 20 of those points came from short fields created by defense and special teams. The Missouri game was part of a 3-game stretch in which Bennett had 0 passing TDs and one of 4 games total in which he had none. He only completed 50% of his passes with 2 interceptions against Florida. His inconsistency didn’t stop Georgia from winning the title.

It is unfounded hype, dear friend. Daniels is no QB. Hatred? You are stupid. The man is unable to decipher a defense.

Idiots on here think a QB can't get better with development because he's a 5th year player

Some idiots think JD5 can become the next Joey B because he will have a miraculous development this year giving him vertical passing ability. Those same idiots think Nuss can't develop and will continue throwing picks.

I don't care who is under center.

If JD5, I would love it if he could just keep eyes downfield while scrambling and make a pass play. That would get him in finalist position for Heisman.

If Nuss, I would love it if his gunslinging is kept to throwing to the good guys' jerseys.

If we can have either of the above, next season should be quite special! But I think we probably will need both of these gents performing at a high level. Geaux Tigers!!

JD5 has some amazing skills and abilities. Not perfect but he's a threat to be reckoned with and will be even better.

You’re trying to paint it like the defense and special teams were the only reasons LSU didn’t win the SEC this year, which is absurd. They held FSU to 24 points. Two wins this year the offense scored 21 and 13 points.

Bennett’s “inconsistent” was a hell of a lot more productive than Daniels’. He threw for 1,500 more and 10 more TDs.

If Daniels can do that LSU will be in a good spot. If he’s still sub-3k and 20 LSU will be in right about where they were this year.

If this were an LSU-related outlet doing it, I could agree. If LSU's SID put out Heisman briefs for Daniels, or even if it were the Advocate or another local rag touting him, you have a potential point.

What purpose does national media have doing it? Why would they hype him?

Is that suppose to be bad and fit your point? That's not exactly terrible odds right there and being in that position he could easily rise. Not saying he's going to win it but it reinforces the point even Vegas sees he has potential as a heisman QB.

Nobody's saying he will be better than Caleb but the fact some in here laugh at him as a heisman candidate QB is baffling when those odds right there even prove it.

I said that with Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee replacing QBs NEXT year having a better and more consistent defense and special teams would create a CEILING of winning the SEC, not that they would definitely win the SEC and not that they would have won the SEC this year.

They “held” FSU to 24 points because FSU only had 9 possessions. Some of that was the offense having some long drives, but mostly it was because the defense couldn’t get FSU off the field on 3rd down. A normal game is 12-13 possessions. The points per possession were more like a typical game giving up 31-35 points. It was NOT a good defensive outing. That said, you are missing the fact that I combined defense and special teams in my comments. The two muffed punts and 2 blocked kicks were an even bigger contributor to the loss.

Bennett had 289 total yards per game compared to 271 for Daniels and that was with Daniels playing only one quarter against Southern and missing the second half against Georgia. Bennett did account for 37 TDs to 29 for Daniels, but he played an extra game (plus the parts of games Daniels missed noted above). The overall production between the two isn’t as disparate as you are making it out to be.
