Am I the only one who's not convinced this D is elite?

Not saying they're not but also not for sure why so many are pimping them as being elite despite not having played anyone yet.

All I can think back to is the first of the Wisconsin game when Melvin Gordon was healthy.

Just sayin'. Let's pump the brakes a bit.

they grew up in the last three games it seems like and are playing as a cohesive unit for the most part.

stacking the box and forcing teams to throw seems to be working well

I don't think they are elite yet either. As soon as a big offensive line with a good RB plays us, we will see if we can stop the run. I have all the confidence in the world that we can stop a great passing team, but a power running team will give the defense fits.

I'm worried about being able to pressure the QB. We look really good everywhere else.

Completely agree. this Board is incredible reactive and seems to forget that Wisconsin hung 24 on us in 3 quarters with a garbage qb.

Because wisky had a terrible line and RB.

Defensive line as a whole is garbage....

So we dominated ULM and Sam Houston....
Wait till they get 24 Hung on them this weekend.

No you're not. They are much better than last year though. I would say they end up ranked 10 to 15 in total defense. Still worried about the middle, and push from the front 4 against good lines.

Until halftime and adjustments were made. Since this defenses' first two quarters of football, what has there been to complain about?

some of our best defenses weren't as impressive as this unit has been since the first half of wisconsin. I am with you in that its too early to call them elite but I like what i have seen. We only have a couple opponents that run a power running game...this defense is built for the spread.

With that defensive line, I don't think you can call them elite. LSU's secondary creates a world of problems for teams with average passing games.
It looks like a better and deeper overall group than last year.

i think they will be up there with the best weve had under miles, even if not as good as 2010 and 2011, that is still a great d. And def enough to handle Miss State. They dont scare me.

And lets not act like teams werent able to move the ball against that 2011 Defense. I dnt care who we played, we havent shut out two opponents in a row in 30 years.

By Wisconsin not to run Gordon?

The question was asked if we thought the defense is elite. I'm saying we are not elite against a great power running team.

You don't think our corners can cover and we can put 8 in the box if we have to? This secondary hides the weakness, if any, on that line. You'll see.

I guess you really meant against an elite running back? They were still a great power running team and i would say the back up running back was much more physical than Gordon.

I agree, but that still doesn't make the defense elite if you have to stack the box to stop the run.

Don't get me wrong. I think stacking the box and putting our corners on an island should be our game plan almost every week, but our D-line is not elite at stopping the run.

An elite defense is an elite defense. You can't say, "well, they aren't because they have to play this way". Who cares how they play if they get turnovers and goose eggs
