Nah, in all seriousness, to the guy who started this thread, when I left Baton Rouge and told all my friends I was going back to school, it was like any of my friends that were over 30 - "Oh so you're going to USL, I mean ULL?"
Name changes throw people off. It doesn't bother me when somebody says USL, if it's an honest accident, just think of all the highschools in Baton Rouge that have changed their name. But if somebody says it to look down on me, like LSU is some kind of prestigious university......you can kiss my arse. I was accepted into much better schools than LSU when I graduated high school, I just wanted to stay close to home.

Do you still call Windows Vista "MS-DOS"?
That's what I was thinking too! Windows Vista? MSDOS? Horrible analogy.
BTW, I still call it USL sometimes. I used to get USL and SLU mixed up and only remembered it because USL is LSU backwards.

USL will always be a worthless, wannabe institution that should have never been established, and whose inhabitants mask their own inferiority by thinking up grandiose new names while they seethe with jealousy over LSU.
To hell with them.
I still use U.S.L. everytime I mention them on here.........

I just think of them as "South Central Louisiana State"

UL haters on this board huh ? TAlkin about them so much you might begin to think Saturday will be a challenge, I can't remember so much pointless negativaty before a LSU vs. UL showdown
Posted on 9/17/09 at 1:00 am to ItsThatDude12
Nope. Unless they find "The Waterboy" before Saturday, they'll just be saying "Oh no... We suck again!"

Dude, there are approximately 25 other threads on this board that are spewing the same nonsense you are. Post to one of those.

There's plenty threads like this one with people being overly repetitive about the name of UL , I figure I'd chime in on another dumb topic , boredom I guess , my bad for knowing the name of the team we play

This message is intended for the Rant posters, not the originator of the thread. I absolutely hate the way ULL pretends to be other than advertised. Front of baseball shirts clearly stated "Louisiana". Not Louisiana Lafayette, but "Louisiana". This is an affront to Louisiana Monroe and will always be. I will spare everyone the history of this situation. If you don't know the history, look it up. It's available everywhere (Google, etc.). I live in Houston area. Bought the Houston Chronicle on Monday to see most "major" FBS schools' scores, schedules. Imagine my continued surprise to see ULL listed as merely "Louisiana" just below LSU and just above "Louisiana Tech" and "La-Monroe". WTF!!! This is wrong. Wrong.
I know there are 1,000 posts on this topic. Who cares, this is my first reply to these posts. I would like to try to level the playing field a little bit regarding fellow Louisiana institutions of higher learning.
My background involves growing up in New Iberia, 20 miles from Lafayette and ULL. Grew up an avid LSU fan. I went to USL and not LSU because USL was closer and less expensive for me and my parents.
No question I could have applied and been accepted at LSU. No question. I graciously accepted the less expensive education of the closer college.
Lived 5 years in Lafayette. Wouldn't trade those years for the world. Got a degree in Chemical Engineering (160 hours) with a 2nd Major in Math (28 hours). Went to work for a chemical company in the Baton Rouge area (Plaquemine), so yes I am very familiar with Nicholson, Airline, Tiger Stadium, etc. You may or may not believe that several Saturday nights I could actually hear fan noise from TS, even though the 62,000 fans were at least 15 miles away from my Plaquemine apartment. Could see the lights also.
I worked 7 years there and moved on to another chemical plant in the Houston area, where I retired after 25+ years.
Hybrids of attending one university and having another university as a favorite are possible. I am an example. My brother (4 years younger) graduated from Louisiana Tech. He is the same way. Imagine our experience in 2007 when he and I went to the La. Tech game @ TS - ULL grad., La. Tech. grad both sitting in the La. Tech. section and pulling for LSU to win the game.
Look - it's only a game. But you and I know the game is so super important when it comes to the outcome. It means the difference in prestige that's broadcast across the nation vs. relative obscurity.
University of Louisiana - get over yourself. I still get all the quarterly bulletins. I see the many attempts to proclaim yourself as the "University of Louisiana". Stop this already..... As an alumnus, I have the right to say this.
We have an excellent collection of colleges in Louisiana, and I follow them all. Kudos/props to the LSU powers to schedule McNeese and Northwestern. It is what it is. I pull for McNeese (way to go McNeese v. App State), Southeastern, ULM, La. Tech., Grambling, ULL, Southern, Tulane, Northwestern, Nichols St., and any other non-football school (UNO, etc.). Unless, of course, these "wormey, lesser schools" are trying to beat my LSU Tigers. Ha. Ha.
I'm OK with USL. USL is what I grew up with. Carrolton Tiger - SLI is a little more antiquated. SLI was "even" before my time. Even when I went to college in '63 - '67 USL had 12,000 students walking around campus. Still 2nd largest student body in the state. I get your point. I still prefer to deal with and call this institution ULL - why can't everyone else. There is no way the Bulldogs (Oops, I meant the Cajuns) will be able to deal with LSU.
All Cajuns should be pulling for LSU (secretly, not out loud). LSU is Louisiana's best shot at national prominence (once again).
Peace to ULL bashers

Definately NOT U.L. or LOUISIANA or UNIVERSITY of LOUISIANA. ULM would have something to say about that. ULL just has "penis envy".
