He ceded his "negotiation power" earlier this week. His negotiation power centered around forfeit being on the table. Alleva never put it there. He got clowned! Now you think he's somehow going to wrest power back? Wow

SEC now has to protect brand. They can't force us to cancel a contract. Negotiation power

Not really. It's not like Gainesville is flooded, with people being rescued from homes by people in boats.

No but much of northeast Florida is in a bad bad way. For a community who just had its own catastrophic flooding it'd be a terrible look to over play our hand. Alleva did about all he could do.

Really?

So here's the question, what if Alleva had simply taken the week off, stayed at home, put his feet up and poured himself a few cold-ones? Where would this thing currently stand?

And in your same hypothetical world what if Alleva came out with a more aggressive public stance from the onset and areas around Gainesville got absolutely slammed(which areas within an hour or so drive DID) . In this day of everyone getting offended he gets crucified. He's come out and firmly stated we did desperately want to play and tried to make it happen. If the sec won't back him up what can he do??

A more aggressive stance would have been demanding a contingency plan to play the game either in Gainesville on Sunday or Monday, a neutral location, or Baton Rouge, only if it couldn't get played in Gainesville (which we now know it could have been.) You work parrallel paths.

Just not that hard and I can't understand why it's such a tough concept for the "he did everything he could do" camp. No he didn't.

Had they refused this approach on Tuesday you then go to the media and expose them for not cooperating.

Keep in mind that you also have to deal with the SEC office. You do not make these kinds of decisions while emotional. Cooler heads need to prevail. Right now, letting the dust settle a day or so before proceeding is prudent. I am sure that there are some trial balloons being floated, but they are being done in private so that everyone and their fricking illegit sibling is not weighing in. I have the feeling that the school presidents will be trying to do something with each other in consultation with their ADs.

He should have been way out in front of this in social media.... anticipate Foley's moves to prevent this from occurring. Tweets and shite are part of modern PR strategy, and he just put on a clinic on that reality, by sticking inside the traditional lines and getting walked all over.

Don't like him. But he did not screw this up.

I want to believe this just still not sure why you couldn't convince them that an alternate plan needed to be in place to ensure the game was played this week. Sure, if Matthew hit Gainesville head on all bets were off but that didn't happen so it could have been played if a plan was in place vs. waiting and hoping with Gainesville being the only option.

Doing that could result in a PR nightmare is the problem

100% agree. It could have been handled in a way to avoid a PR nightmare. That was a risk worth taking vs the situation LSU now in. The PR nightmare will now be when we dig in on the 11/19 date.
