Think again if you think Joe Alleva is "making" a hire. He's going to be told who to hire. The $$ dudes will have who they want and that'll be it. Alleva will have some input and will help facilitate it, but stop with the "i'm afraid that Alleva won't make a good hire". If you're afraid of that then you DON'T know how this works. Relax, it'll get done.

They spent a million a year. They are not scared to spend money and will make the best hire possible.

So now we have "big money" people selecting the next football coach, even if they have no expertise whatever? Lord, things are going to go from bad to worse!

I have thought more on the topic and I agree.

Alleva will probably rely on a committee to do the interviewing and recommendations. And/or a firm that does coaching searches.

He has the final say though and definitely leads whoever he will work with.

It's not happening in 2015 though. 2016 at the earliest barring total meltdown by Miles the next 2 weeks.

You are right sir, but there isn't a blank check to write. Money isn't as large as some think.

If he is getting rid of Miles he needs to have the next guy ready to go before. A drawn out process will hamper recruiting big time and odds are whoever he gets the fans won't like because they will think that Bill Belichick is coming to BR by the second day.

From another thread

To me, the issue is more Alleva running off Miles because of their personal difference rather than what it is taking place on the field. And if that is true, do we really want the guy that was too cheap and/or arrogant to keep Chavis around making our next hire?

Alleva, through the negotiations and purse strings, had direct impact on Chavis leaving and Crowton staying a year longer than he should've. He'll be very much involved in any firings and hirings if they occur.

I saw Crowton's offense first hand when he was Tech's HC in the mid 90's. If anybody thinks that was Crowton's playbook, go watch the Tech/Nebraska game from 1998 on YouTube.

It's beyond crazy how many people still talk bad about offensive coordinators under les when it's obvious they are just merely a puppet.

So, did the money dudes suggest which DC they needed to hire? And was it the money dudes that went after Les Miles? Inquiring minds at all....

LSU doesn't have a Phil Knight or Jerry Jones type at the school with that type of power. I'll go further to suggest they don't have the Alabama type boosters that went after Saban full throttle and then doubled-down on him for his current salary of $7 million per year. Miles could have won 6 championships in the last 11 seasons and LSU wouldn't have paid that much in the year 2014 for a head coach to keep him. It's just different in Louisiana.

So the money people wanted Crowton to stay longer? I'm just brimming with confidence in that group making the right decision.

No, Alleva wasn't gonna approve the buyout to move Crowton out of his office. It took Maryland's poor judgement to take him off our hands.

The talks of brining on Kragthorpe started at the end of 2009, but Alleva forced Miles hand and we kept Crowton for the 2010 season before he moved up to College Park
