Therein lies the problem. I'll be leaving from class, going directly to the airport with a backpack as my only luggage.

Landing in Chicago after 9 p.m. May have to let the gumbo simmer while I run to a liquor store the next morning.

Conpared to Minnesota, there are no alcohol laws in Wisconsin.

They are open early and close late.

Can you buy liquor at a gas station/drug store or do you have to go to a liquor store?

Gas station and grocery and liquor stores sell. Drug stores? Not sure, actually.

A more important question is will they be serving beer in the stadium? Since it's Lambeau and not a full time college stadium, I am expecting they will.

Plenty of gas stations do sell liquor, but you will pay more.

When I lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin was the cool next door neighbor.

Put it this way, Wisconsin and Louisiana are the two drunkest states in the country.

This shouldn't be downvoted.

ETA, if you won't have time Friday night to buy it, perhaps you could hit the duty free store in one of the airports you're traveling through. You get a decent deal and can throw it in your carry on.

Of all the places I've been to or visited, Wisconsin is one of the areas that has the most abundant booze access. (No drive through places like I think they have in Louisiana, but its plentiful).

Can you walk around with an open container or red solo cup?

In people's yards, the parking lots, the bar areas, beer gardens, etc you won't have any issues. If you're in the immediate stadium area, you shouldn't have any issues. The cops working the games are usually pretty cool as long as you're not being an idiot. If they say something to you about crossing a street with a beer, just tell them you didn't know and move along. I've never had a problem.

Of course, there are going to be a lot more opposing fans co-mingling for this game, and it's a college game vs. a Packer game...and Badger fans are a little more prickly than Packer fans (basically every fan base is) so those are my caveats for the info.

Forgot to mention...the bars and beer gardens likely won't let you walk in with an open drink (obviously), but if you conceal it you should be good to go.

Basically, don't be an a-hole, and the cops will be cool. Thanks!

Also, (posted in another thread but no answer yet) I'm staying in the Appleton/Neenah area. What are the best sports bars or just beer pubs in that area? It looks like there are quite a few and I'll probably hang there Thursday/Friday and go to Green Bay Friday night/Saturday.

Having been to Wisconsin and toured the brewery in Chippewa Falls, I can attest to the fact that you are required to carry alcohol at all times or be subject to arrest and ridicule.

Yup.

As for the Appleton area, I'm not super familiar with it, as I'm a Green Bay native...but it appears that there's a nice stretch along College Ave. just off the Lawrence University campus.

Brewery tours might be fun for those who are in the area and have time.

I'm a huge Central Waters fan, which is in a tiny town in central wisconsin. Tyranena makes some great stuff, and is in the southern part of the state (also in a tiny town). I've heard good things about the Lakefront Brewery tour in Milwaukee. New Glarus, just outside Madison. Others could also be thrown in the mix.
