so, they were #1 4 of the last 5 years. i wonder if they could weather the attrition we've had as well as miles has. i've never seen anything like it.

as far as being #1 4 out of 5, i don't believe it. and i don't because i really don't believe that much in the rankings. they are one indicator yes but much of a recruits ratings are determined after they commit; going to bama means you're movin' on up.

I agree. What is it that translates to success then? Player development, teaching/coaching, luck, desire? I think Saban, Muschamp, Meyer, Kelly, etc. teach discipline, accountability and a strong mental approach to the game to dominate your opponent. This translates to a better performance during games in handling adversity and the will to win.

If Auburn hadn't spent all their payroll on Newton, maybe they could have kept a few more of those Bama boys away from the Tide and evened things up a bit.

I agree, because the media votes teams higher based on their coaching philosophy and Saban demands perfection and his teams play closer to perfection than a less disciplined coaching philosophy. Miles wants to do anything we have to do to win by at least 1 point, where Saban, Muschamp, etc want to destroy other teams. They press thinks higher of this philosophy.

Thank you for posting. Saban can not win without talent advantage. Given the same level of talent, Miles is a better coach. I think Spurrier is a better coach than Saban and Miles is 4-0 vs Spurrier.

Florida state has been right up there with bama in all recent years and look what they have to show for it. It takes more than recruiting, Saban develops his talent. At least give the man some credit. And yes, Les is just as good if not better at developing talent.

If you really believe that then why did Saban drill Miles on 1/9 with equal talent? Not flaming, just need to know your reasoning here. Spurrier is out of the convo as he has been resurrecting a horrible program....

I'm not sure about Bama, but I like the fact that LSU has this success w/alot of homegrown La. boys. It says alot about our kids compared to the larger populated states.

If you really believe it, why Saban lost at home? Talent was snot equal. Saban had more 1rst and 2nd round draft choices than Miles had.

Recruiting rankings are bull shite. Shepard and Loston were 5*. Claiborne was a 3*. Chiz has been pulling in solid classes at Auburn and look where that has gotten him. Miles would be considered a genius coach by many if he hadn't missed on qb recruits like he has.

Right on, then why Miles was expected to win the NC with these current players? We have horrible QB, receivers, and offensive line.

Bama out recruits everyone by a lot. They have the top ranked rivals class THIS year when you account for the number of recruits they have. In other words, their average recruit is rated higher than ours. When the numbers become even they will be ahead of us (USC is a wild card).

But that's not the only reason. Saban recruits fairly uniform classes. He doesn't develop holes in his roster like we do. E.g. No QB's a few years ago, shortage of good LBs last year, shortage of DTs next year.

With all that said, Miles does a great job...just not as good as you know who.

So Miles is 3-3 against Saban with far less talent. Must mean Saban sucks at coaching.

Did you just try to use Miles' failure to beat Saban in recruiting as an excuse for Miles' failure to beat Saban on the field?

No, I'm not trying to make excuses or making excuses.Miles is 3-3 against Saban. One would assume that since Alabama is rated #1 by so-called recruiting experts that Alabama should beat LSU everytime. Most football analyst call Saban the greatest college football coach. If he is 1st in recruiting and coaching and many people think Miles is goofy as hell;then, one would think that Miles could never be able to beat a Saban recruited and coached team.So maybe, just maybe, Miles is a better coach than many of us on this board give him credit for.

Their is the Saban factor in recruiting. Always an inevitable bump. I truly trust what Frank Wilson is doing and to me is the 2nd most valuable or ties Chavis in terms of value to the program.

I agree. And I've found my fair share of faults with miles. A miles coached football team is easy to get frustrated by at times. However the facts say that he is one of the greatest college football coaches of our time and at the end of the day I'm happy as hell to have him.

At Bama, yes......he wasn't as good at this when he was at LSU though.

2013 and 2014 will be GREAT years for LSU recruiting.....we aren't going anywhere
