Let me see if I can summarize this thread:
1) a few posters think Alfred Blue just won the lotto
2) the thread title would be more accurate if it said $117k + a lot more if he proves himself
3) a few posters are confused about what it takes to be a backup on the 3rd best SEC team and a starter in the NFL.
4) everyone is rooting for al blue but he needs to make a team.

Shocking? Hard to believe professional athletes are bad with money?

Really? Most people are bad with money which is why most people are in debt or paying off high arse credit card bills. A lot of people are fronting for their peers.

That's great!!! Always liked his style of running. He reminded me of that kid from Hempstead, Tx. Cant remember his name right now, hell getting old...

Not guaranteed, gets to keep signing bonus but has to make roster to get salary

yeah by year 4 he's really going to have to be producing. He has a $700K hit if they keep him, and a $29K hit if they release him.

Well at least he didn't sign with the Rams.

Amirite?

You need to go and listen to the full interview, not just the pieces the writer put out

I'm always glad when a Tiger does well, and I haven't read the whole thread, so I'm assuming the 2.xx million is guaranteed.

If that's not the case, don't ruin it for me, as I could not be happier for anyone that has ever played for LSU, or will play for LSU in the future.

Could literally almost tear up thinking that kid "made it". I hope he turns into Joe Addai....that kid that hung around, worked hard, did things right, didn't say much, accepted what was thrown his way, and either redirected it or overcame it.

Ever notice something about the guys that wind up like "those" guys (again, Addai being the classic example)? They don't have "notable" quotes. You really don't even know what their voices sound like. I'm not saying you've got to be a mute to be successful, but there is probably something to be said in terms of the relationship between success, and those that that keep their mouth shut, do their job, don't bitch, expect nothing, accept everything, and remain focused.

God, I hope that kid "makes" it. For that matter, I hope he "has" in the form of that money being guaranteed. I know it's probably not, but hopefully the signing bonus is enough by itself such that his dreams are fulfilled.

Couldn't happen to a better Tiger. Attitudes like his, IMO, are the root of championships, because they come from the heart of champions.

nope, does not qualify for a pension, and even though the practice squad pays OK, it's pretty much a week to week gig

You don't know what the frick you're talking about. If he can make the squad 3 or 8 games a year I believe, than that makes home eligible for the nfl retirement for credits.

Certain players on the practice squad are eligible for the retirement.

All be it they meet the criteria

PRACTICE SQUAD PLAYERS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR RETIREMENT!!!

nope, I know facts don't have much place on the rant, but this shite is pretty easy to google, and if they were to qualify, the meager pension wouldn't be collectible until age 55

and it's albeit

Pretty sure you have to be on an active roster in 4 different seasons. How many games in a season you have to be active for, i am not sure nor whether or not they have to be consecutive seasons. You get no credit for practice squad time towards the penion. If you do qualify, you get $1200/month and health insurance starting at age 55. The monthly goes up every year you play beyond 4. It's a tough pension to achieve.
