We also checked out New Orleans...Bourbon street as well as downtown (Walks Ons for dinner)

terrible choice

if you're in new orleans, there are about 500 better places to eat than walk ons

but you'll learn

Next time you head to New Orleans, don't eat at Walk Ons. Ask the Food and Drink Board for advice. You obviously needed it.

It was about what I expected from a place like that. We went on the advice of a LA native but I'm of course open to try what is suggested by others. It was a place to watch the game and have a beer at least and wasn't as difficult to park as Bourbon street was.

Thank you sir. I learned that a long time ago unfortunately. Tough guys on the internet can never be beat I guess.

Baton Rouge. I'll update my profile in a second. Company put me up in a hotel in Hammond during the move.

Though I've lived in Texas for 25 years, as a former Louisiana resident and LSU Alum. I say welcome to the state. My son is a former Aggie and got a great education there, so I know a little bit about A&M and College Station also. The idiots making fun of the place must have never been to Oxford, Starkville, Tuscaloosa, Auburn or Fayetteville, or Columbia, MO. All good college towns but not exactly Austin either. This board has more than its share of internet smart guys, but it is the best on the web. One word of advice, watch your arse in Baton Rouge, it ain't the safest place in the world, nor the prettiest, nor does it smell very good when the wind is from the north, but it can be great on Saturday nites in the Fall.

Not true, I've had the misfortune to move from Lafayette to outside of Houston when I was young and have never heard anyone say howdy that wasn't either an Aggie or making fun of the word/an Aggie. Along with the "we're the nice guys of the SEC" attitude they all have, saying howdy is unbearable. When you're in College Station they actually expect you to say it back... I've had an old lady yell howdy at me again and again because I said hello back to her instead.

Yeah, I lived in Lafayette for a few years. Good food, but God what a pit.

Houston is a concrete jungle but has a decent amount of jobs there. Lived there and Dallas for a few years. outside of austin, texas is overrated imo

Welcome, Elephant. Enjoy the board, ignore the idiots, there are plenty here.

I grew up in Louisiana and heard "howdy" used frequently all over the state--it's more of a rural thing, and was no big deal. Here in Texas I don't hear it any more or less frequently than I did in La. It's kind of Mayberry-ish, but not offensive.

Baton Rouge is a "quaint" town with a lot of good memories and associations for those of us who went to school there. It's certainly going through a period of great change now, and so you'll hear a lot of descriptions of it from many varied perspectives. I think if you plan carefully it is a great place to raise kids and a family. Some of the nicest people around live there!
