Man I want the old two tone fields. To me, those are the best in college football.

That always kind of bugged me - was that the real reason for it? I had never heard that before.
Yeah i think so.
I really think for the 2000 season it was on the 45 yd line, then after that they started putting up straight up at the 50.

Every visitor had an end zone (south) in their colors and initials in the '70s. Discontinued due to buildup of different colors over the course of the season.
Also, pre'64, pregame band show featured forming initials of visitor and playing their fight song. No kidding. It really happened. Ah, Sportsmanship!

Wish LSU would go back to the block letters.
I think the eye of the tiger used to be larger.
The archs looks sweet.

You Sir are correct. The center of the field at the 50 yard line also had the purple/gold squares and squares in the visiting team's colors as shown by OP for Notre Dame. Blue/Red for Ole Miss, Red/White for Bama, Maroon/White for Moo State, Blue/Green for Tulane, etc. all on the right side. Left was always Purple/Gold.

I hate the Geaux font (not overall, just in the end zones) and the bright yellow color Nike implemented.
The block LSU was tits and the more orangey yellow matches our helmet color better.

Good work. Thanks. Block design and eye of the tiger are the best. Always. I think they had that in the Arnsparger era. He is still my second favorite LSU coach.

Love the arches maybe bring them back for a game .
I love the Louisiana State with LSU diagonally with the star representing Baton Rouge, definitely never change the eye but put that design on something awesome.
Great Post

quote:did the nfl put opponents logo in one of the end zones ..... for some reason I think I remember seeing it in the super dome for saints games in the 80s ...
Notre Dame (for some reason) was given their own endzone decor in Tiger Stadium. used to be the norm in college football, Alejandro

A lot of the Saints games at old Tulane Stadium had different endzones. their first regular-season game against the Rams had a Rams end zone; the Tom Dempsey kick had a Lions end zone. That Lions game was not significant until the kick so I'm sure that means that during that era every opposing team had their own end zone.

I was a kid in the 80's, but the movie, Rocky, was big then. Rocky III came out 82-83ish (too lazy to look up). That was the debut of the Survivor song "Eye of the Tiger". Everyone got into the song, and TGBFTL started playing it during this time period. Rocky IV came out mid-80's and was popular. Coincidentaly the Eye appeared in the field. I can't remember the first game I saw it, but I remember it when we were going to the Sugar to play Nebraska (i think).
Sometime in the 80's (88ish?) they filmed "Everybody's All-American" during a game we lost one night. I remember this because everyone was told to dress like the 50's. We had gone to a 1 upright post goal post (Arnsparger) and the camera folks added fake posts on either side. I think the field was painted like the 50's. So the Eye was gone. As far as I know (and I can certainly be wrong) was the last time I remember the Eye until Dinardo "brought the magic back".
This my "Thank you Captain Obvious" contribution to your post. Funny how memory and actual tangible proof differ sometimes. I hate Geaux font!
Geaux Tigers!

For everything, including shirts, caps, etc. All these other fonts look stupid.
The block letter LSU is a tradition that should never have been interrupted.

The Eye of the Tiger at midfield just plain sucks. It is the cheesiest logo in college football. We can all thank Nick Saban for resurrecting that monstrosity.
