You're probably right. After the season, it may be a whole different story. As in, our backfield will create even greater distance between itself and anyone else. As great as it was last year, they have one more year of experience this season, a tremendous offensive line returning and a QB who presents a more lethal vertical passing threat, which will only open things up further for the running game. Last season, our top four returning backs combined for 444 carries, 2,338 yards and 30 TDs. And that is considering all the drives we had with a short field due to a tremendous defense that created turnovers. Oh, and this year, we work Jeremy Hill into the rotation. Plus, Kenny Hilliard only got going about halfway through last season. We've only just begun to tap his potential. Each of our top five backs could start for many teams across college football. Long story short, I'll put our backfield against anyone's, now or end of season.

Cool, we had longer drives sometimes, but we passed about as many times as we ran.

Our 4 main backs (Richardson, Lacy, Fowler, Sims)

456 carries, 2845 yards, 32 TDs

You played one more game than we did too. Don't give me the "We played better teams" thing, because we played better teams with a defense. GSU? Better D than your FCS game. PSU? Bettre D than WVU.

Will T-Rich be gone? Yes. Irrelevant to the fact that before last season everyone thought Richardson wouldn't put up good numbers. He wasn't as good as Ingram. He can't stay healthy even as a back up. Same things you think about Lacy. I honestly believe Lacy is better than Ingram. He doesn't fumble anymore. He moves the pile like a smaller Richardson, he has the best damn spin move you'll see in College Football, and he will be running behind a better O-Line than Trent ever did.

The fact of the matter is we can make 4 RBs work within our offense. Lacy the primary, Hart/Yeldon on relief duty, Fowler in garbage time and in short yardage situations. We're not gonna split carries evenly between 4 guys, much less 5 like you assume you will. If you do that your numbers won't go up as a group, but individual numbers will go down because someone else is taking carries that another RB would've had. The fact is if you think your numbers will be much better than what you did last year with 5 RBs, you better hope you can run against 11 defenders because that gameplan means no time to pass the ball.

Oh, and regarding Athlon, save your $ next time and get Phil Steele.
Lindy's SEC at a minimum.

You poor soul. Steele is one of the biggest bama arse kissers out there.

I lowered Steele from TOP tier to homer-not-so-grand status several years ago.

And by "everyone" I can only guess you mean "no one". Who, that could be read or heard in the known universe, thought that Trent Richardson wouldn't put up good numbers?

And no, no amount of "he'll be a dropoff from Ingram" or "He won't be as good as Ingram" counts as "he won't put up good numbers." Only an idiot would interpret a prediction of less than Heisman-winning numbers as "wouldn't put up good numbers".

Plain and simple that ranking of our RB corps has nothing to do with total yards and TDs. The only number important is the number 7. That is the number of backs we have that can all be the star in a particular game. #7 is Copeland, the best lead blocking FB in the country. That rating is based purely on our depth. We have the best depth in the country. If the rating were based on total numbers neither LSU nor Bama would be #1. Ever hear of Army and Navy? Neither can match the numbers those guys put up running the ball. Wouldn't be suprised if Oregon's backs had better total yards and TDs than LSU and Bama last year or this year.

I know, if you were paying attention I was only throwing numbers around because your LSU buddy did.

Can anyone tell me where Bama is on their lists? I can't find it online and haven't went to get my copy yet.

Who the hell said that

The SEC writers or some source like that ranked Richardson as the #1 player in the SEC going into the 2011 season.

I agree there is fan bias and maybe Yeldon blows up. Both teams have a great group of RB's quibbling over who is ranked higher is meaningless.

I think it was the Honey Badger who was quoted as saying with Mett at QB, practice was a lot more frustrating for the DB's as he kept throwing the ball where only the receiver or nobody could catch it. As opposed to last yr when they all had chances to make interceptions. And Coach K was quoted as saying that Mett's strongest strength was his touch on deep balls. Both speak well for our starting QB...as well as a semi shot at last yrs'.

Oh boy, 2012 is gonna be fun to watch!

It'll be hard to top last year. However, having a sound QB should make it better.

If this is true, Les is truly an idiot. I know that has to be so frustrating wondering what could have been if Les wasn't sold out to JJ.
