Fact is that Bama did not get 3 first downs in the entire 2nd half to that point so I completely understand you kick a field goal to make them score a TD and burn their timeouts. Ask Saban why did he not run the ball 4 times against TAMU inside the 5 yard line if you want to second guess a no brainer.

If les wouldn't have tried to run the ball on 3rd and 10, who knows what could have happened.

under normal circumstances..YES

but les screwed up with that fake earlier. how about let Alleman try it and if he misses then we know we cannot count on him in the end and we can go for it and try to finish the game there. oh no but he makes a dumbass decision and lets alleman try a 55 yarder....which then gives bama a short field to get a TD before the half. then alleman chokes at the end.....maybe we would have known if les would have let him try the kick earlier so we knew what we had.

you're right, who knows...could have been a pick-6. but I'm sure it will go down in lore that the team would have automatically won the national championship had a pass play been called...

Just tired of reading about all these 10 win threads. This team had a great chance to win it ALL, but gave it all away to Bama in a game we dominated. Now you've got a board full of retards cheering for AU, FSU and 5 other games so that LSU can back into a championship game when all we had to do was stop Bama with a 1:30 left in the game.

At the end of the day, we controlled our own destiny and we gave it away.

For whatever reason, even after that happened we still haven't figured out how to stop doing it to every team we played since. We came close to losing to Ole Miss and Arkansas in the same fashion.
What you say is true. What amazes me is how little "learning" this coaching staff brings from actual gametime snafus - like the last Bama possession and the defense LSU used to give them the game. And yes, they tried it again in both Ole Miss and Arky games and had they been nearly as good as Bama, we'd likely be 8-4 right now and not (barely) 10-2.

Based on what was going on during that game at that time Bama was not doing anything on offense. If they were moving the ball we would have been more aggressive. This is not hard to understand and almost every coach at every level would have called that series the same way. Burning their timeouts and making the score a TD to win was the right call. If Mett throws a pic or gets sacked out of field goal range you people would melt down quicker than butter on a hot Louisiana day.

All of that is true. However, as a friend pointed out to me, while LSU could be 12-0 or 11-1, it could also be 6-6 ... if you concede that the So. Car., A&M, OM, and Arky games could've been losses. That really doesn't counter your point I realize --- that Miles is Miles and we get the good w/ the bad ... lots of good, certainly, but leaves you wanting more.

Greatly underachieved

frick off.

We loss one of best big play guys in the game, our starting RB, half our starting OL, LBs, and our starting QB didn't live up to expectations, but yet we came one defensive stand away from playing for it all---AGAIN.

Cry baby fans who crap on impressive seasons because the season is not impressive enough for them to be able to beat their chest in front of other fans make me sick.

A lot of peole do not realize how fine a line it is between being in the NC hunt like Bama and UGA and being 0-8 in SEC like Auburn and Tenn. One bad year of recruiting or some key injuries and things unravel quickly.
Next year is going to be even harder when you look at the schedule we have to play... #2, #3, #4, #9 and add TCU, rebuilding teams of Auburn and Ark, upwardly building Ole Miss and State. Next year could be one of the best years ever or quickly fade into obscurity with a few missteps.
