3 Reasons Why LSU will fare better than people think

Most places I've looked, including on TD and on ESPN, SI, etc. predict LSU to stumble and fall on their face the rest of the season. 7-5 and 6-6 seem to be the most popular prognostications.
Now, I have to imagine this is mostly about not getting expectations too high. But still, this opinion seems pretty overwhelming. Here's why LSU is a team to be reckoned with from here on out.
1. Coach O has set the right tone. In these kind of situations, the last thing you want to happen is for the players and coaches to hold a season-long pity party. Judging from the sports media and player's twitter accounts, Coach O has done a masterful job preventing that from happening. The team seems motivated, energy is high, and there is the sense that this is a new day.
2. Nothing to lose. There is nothing more dangerous than a team - and more specifically, a coaching staff - that has nothing to lose. There's no pressure to win the West, the SEC, or make the playoffs. No pressure means a loose and relaxed team who is just out there to kick arse and have fun.
3. The offense will look like a new team. Success in football isn't about simply executing well the play that's called. It's also about strategizing, out-flanking, and out-maneuvering the opposing defense. Coach O mentioned something about the coaches pulling the rope in the same direction now. Most people who have played or coached football know that the relationships, opinions, and dynamics of the coaching staff are complex. It's not as simple as all of the assistant coaches falling in line with the HC like a bunch of blissful lemmings. Loyalty to the HC =/= agreement with the HC. You've got a group of different guys - many of which want to rise through the ranks and become OCs, DCs, and HCs themselves - and you better believe they study up and research what other teams are successful doing. It's not hard to imagine LSU's offensive coaches being frustrated with the product that has been put onto the field. That's why I won't be surprised to see LSU's offense turn it on. I predict they will look like a completely different team Saturday.
LSU rolls Mizzou 38-7, and finishes 2016 8-4 or better.

Agree, and this is why LSU is a VERY dangerous team now!

Uhhh winning the West is still very much winnable according to the players. Even Alleva said our goals are still attainable before announcing O yesterday.
shite, the fact that LSU can still somehow win the SEC is half the reason why Les was fired when he was.

So... you think they will fare better than people predict...and do so by winning 1 more game than people are predicting?

Not good with nuance, I see.
Let me re-phrase in the form of a question: exactly which coaches' jobs do you think are in jeopardy if they don't win the West? They gonna fire Coach O because he didn't get the team to pull a complete 180 and win the West after the HC got fired 4 games into the season?

Yeah, so basically I'm predicting that LSU - in addition to beating Mizzou - will win at least 3 out of 5 between Bama, Ole Miss, A&M, Florida, and Arkansas.
Based on how people are acting, yes, it's a fairly bold prediction.

No, we might call a few different plays, but we won't learn a new offense in one week.

I agree would
Be impressive with the schedule we have considering what's gone down

Yeah and the pressure is off, go have fun, you know O is pumping that, make it fun again.
The good news is there is enough talent there with a good bounce or two we could ruin someones season

quote:there it is. The most predictable stupid theory that always pops up in the mid part of a season. "Nothing to lose" is meaningless and even if it were real, "nothing to lose" does not make the team any more talented or focused or smarter.

Who the frick thinks that?
"Nothing to lose" doesn't mean the team literally becomes more talented or smarter.
It's just psychology. People weigh losses more heavily than they weigh gains. We're naturally risk-averse.
When you have nothing to lose, you 're more prepared to take risks. That's why I said I was specifically referring to the coaching staff. A coach who has nothing to lose is more prepared to let the QB throw on 3rd and 13 instead of running the ball and punting.

Don't have to. We've heard that they run stuff in practice that they never do in game, and those wrinkles will help us to be more diversified. I remember videos of Cam practicing RPOs with Harris that we never ran. These are in every spread playbook, and it is a very dangerous play. To combat an awful OL we can do three step drop and dink and dunk our way. The middle of the field should finally be used more often.
Misdirection in the running game. You can't tell me we only know hulk smash iso and toss dives. Etling can run, and will run so option away. Put guys like Chark, Jackson (Donte), and Dural in motion and fake giving the ball to them or give it to them. Watch Harbaugh's offense. It's a pro style, but it's not in your face 99% of the time like Miles. They do a lot of misdirection running sending RBs and WRs in motion.
Get more of the talent involved. Guice and Fournette are rarely on the field at the same time, we rarely use any WR outside of the first 3, and where the hell is TE Washington? I would love to see guys like TEs Washington, Smith, and WRs Davis and Ferguson, out there being physical.
LSU can do so damn much it's ridiculous.
