It was a special time for me.
I was 14, at the height of my LSU Fandom, and after a 1-1 start, Gerry DiNardeaux made his debut at Tiger Stadium. He vowed to bring the magic back, and before a sellout crowd of 80,559, he did just that, as LSU defeated No. 5 Auburn, 12-6.
The game was not televised, heck it wasn’t even available on TigerVision. Most LSU fans who didn’t attend the game could only listen to the game via their affiliate on the LSU Sports Network. The only way an LSU fan could see the game was if he or she lived in Alabama, where you could purchase the game on a Pay-Per-View basis via the Auburn Network. On the following Monday, I called the LSU Media Department, spoke to Kevin Wagner, and was able to purchase a VHS copy for $19.95.
Coming into the game, Auburn was averaging 61 points per contest, but Gabe Northern, James Gillyard, and a young Booger McFarland held the War Eagle crew to just six points that night.
Alanis was singing “You Oughta Know,” Better than Ezra was “Good,” and the Toadies took us to “Possum Kingdom.” What a time to be alive!

I listened to Jim call the game on 96.9 in Alexandria. This was before he was a NegaTiger. When the pass was picked off in the endzone, I went crazy. Thanks for the memories.

I don’t know how you guys have such a great memory. I can never remember these games in such detail. Wish I could.

I was a Battery Commander stationed at Ft. Sill at the time. We had just come off a field exercise the week prior and I took a 3 day weekend pass along with one of my Platoon Leaders (who had graduated from Clemson) and drove the 9.5 hour drive down for this game. It was awesome. My Platoon Leader said, "OK, I believe you now about THIS Death Valley."
That was a helluva game. Thanks for rekindling this good memory.

My 1st game as a student. Got off work at Ruby Tuesday around 3pm, traffic to my apartment, quick shower and flask fill up, all my krewe was on campus already with no way to get in touch pre-cell phone.
Watched 1st half by myself and a cool group in student section before finding some friends at halftime. Got to know Troy Twillie a bit the next year through a mutual friend.

I was driving in Texas, and trying to listen to the game, likely on a Shreveport affiliate. With about 3 minutes left in the game it seemed as if I was getting out of range for the radio signal, so I pulled over to the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, and listened to the end of the game.
And probably listened to some Toadies after the game

~26.5 years ago today, I was standing in line at LSU credit union to open an account. In line with me was Curley Hallman, who was closing his.
Did not even get a sucker when he left.

I was working at a pizza hut in VB, VA, and was listening to the broadcast on a short wave radio I bought just to listen to the games. Back then LSU had a daytime short wave frequency, and a night one. I think they were the only college that aired their games that way.
The younger crowd on this board doesn't realize how huge of a win that was for us. We had just gone through 6 straight losing seasons, including the hallman error.
Dinardo flames out as HC, but he had a huge hand in making the LSU job attractive enough for Saban, and we've now enjoyed the best 20 year stretch in LSU history. The sad thing is that if we had hired good coaches after Saban, we'd have a few more Natty's.

I was there in the last row of the west uppers. Same age as you. I was playing football at Parkview at the time and me and my buddy Josh had a great time at that game.

I was in TGBFTL. Our full band trip the previous year was to the Auburn game, which was an absolute disaster. It was pretty amazing seeing the Tigers get revenge, especially Jamie Howard after his 6 interceptions the year before.
One of the loudest single moments I’ve heard in Tiger Stadium was when that last pass was intercepted. 6 years of frustration was let out right there. It’s just too bad so few people got to see it.

Was there! Jamie almost got picked another pick 6 but thrilling end! Was a really steamy night and great Tiger Stadium atmosphere back then. The 19 UF game maybe closest thing.
Good Ole Dinardo every other week coach!

Was there with a coworker who is an Auburn grad…… he was gracious and yet a little smug at tailgates all day because they just knew they were going to win the game.
After the game, he said - “man this place is amazing, I see why you love Tiger Stadium so much!”
Boy what a night!

First time wearing white at home since the early 80s. An unreal night in Tiger Stadium. Will never forget it.

First LSU game I can ever remember listening to on the radio. It was pretty damn exciting as a kid to hear us win that big of a game.

Hard to believe a game with the #5 team in the country wasn’t televised in 1995.
