Yeah by all means I expect a healthy Hurd starts in Fridays, but his health dictates who starts Sundays also. We are in the same page bud.

The last two SEC baseball seasons have featured teams (Ark in 2021 and Tenn in 2022) whose lineups were stacked and who dominated their opponents until they BOTH tripped up prior to getting to the CWS. NO lineup can guarantee a CWS trip much less a NC. To think otherwise, IMO, is setting oneself up for disappointment.

That being said, I am really looking forward to seeing if JJ et al can get this lineup playing like we all hope they can/will play.

The best team doesn't always win the cws - that's baseball. I would be happy making it to the cws final, bur it does feel like not winning it all would be a let down while we have Crews and Skenes on our roster

Baseball is a funny game the best team rarely wins it all. Just make the tournament and hopefully you play your best ball. Just ask Tennessee.

The expectation I set for every single season is making it to a super. The occasional down year/injury ridden year is to be expected, but LSU should be in a super more often times than not.

If that happens, you are bound to make it to Omaha your fair share.

All that being said, next year I think I'll even raise my bar a notch. I'm not going to be ridiculous and say that it's national champs or bust, but I think we should be expecting a national seed and CWS trip. This team may be good enough to where we should expect that. Of course, anything can happen... Ask Tennessee.

Why even include 2022? All the scheduled games occur in 2023.

We are stacked with position player, but not with pitching.
Our pitching was very weak last year and we lost almost all of our best pitchers.

We need our pitchers returning from injury, Coleman and Edward, healthy, the transfers to pitch well, plus contributions from newcomers.

Definitely the talent to be really good, but our pitcher have to come through and we have be be much improved in the field

Why do people say stupid shite like this???

LSU hasn’t had a roster capable of making Omaha since 2017. So…. We hire a guy, who after one year of being hired, actually builds a roster that is actually very capable of getting to Omaha, which is one of the biggest, and most important, aspects of the job, and people want to proclaim that if we don’t actually make it to Omaha, the coach, who actually built the roster, should be on the hot seat. Such stupidity.

Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything, but yeah, title or bust is easier said than done.

But I have to tip my hat to this LSU class. Staaaaacked.

Ole Miss was one of the the last two teams to even make the tournament this year. Being the best team on paper doesn’t mean much in baseball. Not sure a #1 seed has won it all since the late 90s

Fri: Hurd
Sat: Floyd
Sun: Skenes

Tue: Money. (Commit to having a true #4 that you consistently roll out each Tuesday)

Ole miss also had one of the best teams on paper. They were # 1 for a reason

Ole Miss was ranked #1 at different points during the season. Baseball America, D1 Baseball and NCBWA all had them ranked #1 in week 1.

So maybe highly ranked teams do win it all? Especially if they get healthy? They were considered a top team on paper.

Pretty sure LSU was ranked #1 preseason (by several publishers) in 2009 when they last won it all. I believe they were a 2 or 3 overall seed, but they were also highly thought of that season. Many recognized they were the best team heading into that season.

2009 NCAA Division I baseball rankings

So yeah, I like the idea of LSU being considered the best team heading into a season.

Very good analogy from the past. Both would have seemed like great bets for a gambling man.

Maybe because of the calendar year? We do have fall practice in 2022. But personally, I'd refer to the upcoming season as 2023.

I assume we will play two fall exhibition games against other teams in 2022 as we have done in previous years. I remember making a fall trip to Thibodeaux for that marathon game in 2020 and the UNO and ULL games at the Box in 2021.

Yeah, fall exhibitions seem to be here to stay, and that's a great thing to have, to get ready for the season. I'm coming to BR for the foosball game against the Black Bears, so we'll see what's happening then.
