Cut some scholarships and make Rugby varsity. Seems like it's the only sport on campus that doesn't suck this year.

I kid of course. But the efforts of bringing in international swimming and diving recruits who can't even compete in the SEC isn't worth it.

Eta: Nm, thought there were more foreigners on the team. I thought we had a few Scandinavians on the team but I guess they graduated.

Gotta respectfully disagree here. The new tennis and gymnastics facilities say otherwise.

Exactly. The headlines from LSUsports.net show both men's and women's teams winning their last matches. Both teams are ranked. LSU Tennis' improvement can be directly traced to the new facility.

We've all seen the upward trend in gymnastics since the new practice facility was announced. LSU now has the nicest gymnastic practice facility anywhere. And that's not just hyperbole.

Build it and they will come. If LSU shows it is serious about competing by offering recruits the opportunity to play and train in the best facilities, then whatever sport LSU has those nice facilities for will be competitive.

I've laid out the path in another thread that LSU will need to take to upgrade not just swimming and diving, but also volleyball and basketball.

A new swimming and diving facility in a new location is the first step. The current Natatorium needs to be demolished and a volleyball practice facility built in it's place, next to the old tennis center. Which will become the new beach volleyball facility.

After all that is done, after volleyball moves their practice facility out of the PMAC's walk-in basement, where it currently is now, then a really complete overall of the PMAC can begin.

This is going to be a long process. We've neglected our facilities too long. With all the money coming in from the SEC Network, and the athletic department being as profitable as it is, there is no excuse not upgrade these facilities and to finally catch up with our conference brethren.

Another idiot stealing from LSU. Actually S&D should be eliminated as the school won't support the program with a facility upgrade.

I've been saying this for awhile. Add lacrosse or men/s soccer/women's lacrosse

EXACTLY...if AD/fans are not interested in "fully supporting" the Swimming programs...DROP them in favor of lower cost sports which can easily utilize EXISTING facilities AND bring in an established following...i.e. soccer, maybe lacrosse/rugby
WHAT the frick is the AD thinking/doing ??????

Geyers firat season was 10-11 not 11-12. So Geyers first two seasons were better than any season under Schmitt.

Geyer's first few seasons were with the team Schmitt build, of coarse he did well. Kinda how it all works. Geyer's team is the team we have fielded over the last several years. Go back and reference the nicely provided statistics posted earlier. Really is not rocket science. This year at NCAA's we had one Lady Tiger swimmer who scored points (4), and she scored more points then both of the Men who scored points, combined. We are heading backwards, despite what you hear from the swim program spin doctors and their social media blitz.

Nice picture.

The upward trend in gymnastics happened long before the practice facility announcement. In fact the upward trend in gymnastics is what facilitated the practice facility announcement. The success of the program held the Administrations hand to the fire to move forward. It was down right embarrassing for our National contending gymnastics program to continue in the dump they practiced in.

As a minor sport, show some results and they "might" build it.

The improvements in Tennis started when they fired a long time coach and brought in some new leadership. You can Google that fiasco and subsequent litigation. The new Tennis facility is only icing on the cake. All this really depends on who you talk to and what is their agenda. It's always about the leadership, always has been always will be.

High school and club level coaches have tremendous influence on recruits, for obvious reasons, and they are not going to recommend to their star athlete and their parents that a kid go to a school with poor leadership no matter how nice the facility is at the prospective school. That is just how it is. I challenge any other college swimmer out here on the rant to disagree.

It is real hard to beat the "LSU Experience". Rumor has it, a current top swim recruit chose "LSU Swimming" for the Football games. Hard to beat what the LSU Experience has to offer a prospective recruit. Could the Natatorium be better? Sure, but what it all boils down to is leadership, always has been, always will be.

I believe it's from around 2003-04.

Edit: It's from this site, under LSU Varsity Tournament Courts.
