lifted from a comment on atvs:

quote:

We can’t run the ball like we normally can.

We need to stop beating our heads against a wall, because it isn’t working. At this point it is pretty clear our preseason positional outlook is almost completely opposite. The WR’s and RB’s are the strength of our offense, and the O-line is the weakness. We need to (and I think our coaches will) adjust to our personnel.

Right now LSU is built to be a spread team. The I-formation, 2 WR looks are not working at all.

Get our playmakers out there…with Dupre having a great game, right now our best lineup is probably Fournette at RB, with Dupre, Diarse, Dural, and Quinn at WR.

It doesn’t look like Jennings can be a good quarterback without a solid running game. We don’t have a solid running game. Put Harris in there and let him sling it around…he’s not a typical true freshman QB.

Our offense needs to change.

Into the 4th quarter last night they had been outscored 34-3

going forward things HAVE to change. complete wholesale offensive changes. this offense is so dysfunctional they make florida look like a well oiled machine

Things won't change it's been the same offense for 10 years but you are correct

What's your % confidence that things will change a whole lot. I'd put mine at about 2.745%

it's been roughly the same after the 2008 ole miss game

2013 was an anomaly with mett scaring defense into backing off from the LOS

actually you have a point. spreading the field is used a lot when offenses are trying to hide the fact that their line is poor. get guys who would normally load the box out in the perimeter.

He nurtures the young guys too much. Time to put them out there for the significant parts of the game/season and let them ball. Take their lumps this year and let them grow and learn from their mistakes. Open things up and find your strengths and weaknesses with the young pups, build on that.

this is the year the fanbase would understand losing some games and actually developing players

After I saw the Wisconsin game I realized we , through NECCESITY, needed to move to a spread of some kind, that utilizes zone-read principles. Our advantage is good receivers that give us a deep ball threat, great backs who can run tough in the middle and mobility at the qb position. Make them defend the qb on every play.

I say we spread em out, and use the dive, qb draw. challenge the edge with the pitch-keeper and throw the ball deep to our receivers.

Agreed - this will be humbling for everyone from the coach on down to the kickers. Hopefully this opens up CLM's eyes b/c this disaster was similar to 1/9

Whats mind boggling is that to run a power rushing offense you need a dominant offensive line and an accurate, reliable QB who can hit short to medium range passes. That's the opposite of what we have, but Miles still wants to run that offense.

They are right, LSU is clearly not built to run the ball right at you for 4 quarters. We have a ton of playmakers at WR and RB, and a line that is below average.

football can be such a simple game if you allow it to be.

Teams with less talent run the spread for this exact reason

that's why there is so much parity in CFB in 2014

the spread is a great equalizer

I'm sure all realistic fans knew we were going to drop some games this year due to what we had to replace. We have some of the highest rated freshman, give them a chance to prove themselves. Don't shelter them. This is a big time program, let's see what they can do. Not all of them are going to be able to cut it in a big program, that's just the way it is. Can't find that out if they don't play a lot of meaningful snaps.

I'm worried Jennings is going to get the Jordan Jefferson treatment. We'll see.

jennings led the team to 3 points against MSU

the coaches have eyes and they all want to keep their jobs... i don't think miles goes down with the ship with jennings.

I would like to see our base offensive set be our three wide set. Coach can still run the ball, but with our talent at receiver, this keeps the defense more honest, and while not a true four or five wide spread, it spreads things out enough to run the ball and also take advantage of a handful of very good receivers!

We have an OL that is struggling. We have two qbs that can hit the corner quick. We have 4 battering rams with speed at rb. We have great depth at receiver and at least two who can fly. Both qbs have demonstrated they can throw the deep ball on the run. I'm not sure what more we need, really. Time for the one back set . Gotta make the defense defend the qb.
