What was "myopic" about this thread?

It's like you learned a new word and wanted to use it in a sentence. Of course with a username like that, I wouldn't expect you not to be an attention seeking douchebag. I was in the US Army Infantry, fought overseas, earned a spot amongst an elite group of men, yet I don't go parading around for attention like you.

My memory is it being the first season in my lifetime that it seemed like we could compete for a national title and then we fell flat on our face.

I remember reading an article in The Advocate before the season started titled "The Year of the Tigers" or something like that. I believe it was a Sam King article. It related it being the year of the tiger in the Chinese calendar and how it might be a good omen for an LSU team primed for a championship run. It seemed as though that would be a special year. After all, we were coming off of 3 straight bowl game appearances and Herb Tyler and Kevin Faulk were seniors. Not to mention Cecil Collins was set to come back that year from injury before he got kicked off the team in the offseason. I was so excited, and it all came crashing down starting with Georgia. I've never seen a team just fall off like that team did. The defense was so horrible. Still one of the most disappointing seasons I can remember.

Well that was my freshman year of college.. Nothing really vivid at all.. More of a blur or drunken haze honestly.

It was brutal being at that ole miss game. Lost in OT. Was a rough walk out of there.

I also remember Arnold Miller. Not sure how he didnt block every fg.

scoring a lot of points and still losing a lot of games. whole lot of NFL talent and all-time LSU greats with nothing to show for it. probably the most frustrating season i can remember. no reason that team shouldn't have won the west. lou tepper, sigh

If not for soooooo many close losses that year...Duhnardo probably wouldn't have been chitcanned the following season and what we experienced over the last 15 years probably never would have happened. I've got no regrets about all the heartache I felt that season.

We gave 4 of those 5 games away, the other we beat the West champs 41-6.

incorrect! kentucky had a 14 point lead late. we were lucky to tie it late then dunson got burned by couch on a long pass play that gave them the winning FG.

also, ole miss was beating our arse by 21 heading into the 4th quarter. we came back and tied it sending it to OT in which we lost. Your memory needs some re-tuning. go back and watch those nightmares.

Nashall Menard (spelling?) suicide on levee in spring IMHO was start of bad karma, lost 6 games in last possession or OT...weird year...east deck under construction recall seeing construction workers watching Idaho game from cement beams....

Was sitting in the north endzone during the arky game and the tigers were going away from us on offense. Faulk takes a handoff on the right side through a big hole with a safety to beat. He does a little shake and the safety diss appeared from my point of view. Faulk scores!!!! He had broken the safeties ankle and the guy fell to the ground. I guess the countless great Kevin Faulk runs is what I remember most.

Knew it was " finally our year". Top 10 matchup with UGA was on my schools homecoming night. Got about 100 12 packs of red dog from a middle eastern buddies family store and left my date at the dance to go watch the game. Never been so disappointed or distraught after a loss. Who knew that night was the beginning of the end for Dinardo and bringing back the magic? Impossible to see it back then , but the rest of that season and the next were worth the agony. Considering, it led to the "golden age of LSU football" beginning in 2000!

Uk QB was Tim Couch, Yes Dunson got beat but we lost to better players in most of those games. But Dinardo lost the team and never got it back

The 28-27 loss to UGA destroyed us. I think we would have finished up 9-2 or better if we win that

Tepper's philosophy was "lay back and watch the QB and occupy space in the secondary to see what happens." It was the stupidest defense ever crafted.

He finally abandoned that style in the Miss St. game, and the Tigers dominated. I said at the time, if Tepper reverts, fire him. The next week, he went right back to it with the same crap results. I still can't believe DiNardo decided to ride it out with that garbage.

Absolutely heartbreaking, was fricking angry over that one. It had the build up..#6 Ranking...ESPN Night Game..it was all there.

Even at Halftime, difference was we only got FG's in the 2nd half.

Watched in my dorm lobby with a couple guys who stayed back for the weekend. "LSU has got to be the best 4-5 team I've ever seen," said the color commentator on the broadcast. I watched one other game following, and then The Late Show ran a "special" 5-year anniversary special, and it was hilarious.
