What was LSU seeded when they made their improbable run to the Final Four in 1986? Wasn't like #11 or something? Isn't that the lowest seed to make it to the Final Four? Do you see where I am going with this?

I can still remember when LSU beat Kentucky in the Elite Eight game. What I remember most was Ricky Blanton's exuberance while running down the court after making a key basket near the end of the game.

Yes #11 but that kind of season will never happen again. They will never let a team host a regional like that again.

11 Seed.

VCU tied this accomplishment in 2011.

Sure do.

ETA: George Mason also made it to the Final Four as an 11 seed.

I was there in the Omni. The thing I remember most is us getting away with mugging Kenny "Sky" Walker as he tried to get off a game-winning shot at the end, like he had against us earlier in the year.

If Nikita were eligible for the second half of the season we'd have won it all.

Kenny Walker didnt take the last shot. Ed Davender threw up a half court heave. After John Williams missed the front end of a 1 and 1 with 3 seconds left.

That team was actually really good. Started 14-0 and then the wheels fell off a bit . Had John Williams, Derrick Taylor, Anthony Wilson, Ricky Blanton. Derrick Taylor shot lights out from the top of the key and there was no 3 point shot yet. That wouldn't come till the next year.

That was a good team. Had lots of heart, too. Lots.

Wasn't there a rash of injuries and/chicken pox that crept up at sometime during the season? Like others have said, I think that talent wise that team was MUCH better than an 11 seed. It was just some wierd circumstances that put them in that spot

Are you sure about that? I just don't understand how I could have been wrong about that.

Chicken Pox.

I was the the mini-tourney LSU had with SELA, NLU, and Southern. Southern actually had a very good team that year and gave LSU a decent game.

Nikita Wilson

There's your difference maker in the Louisville game had he been eligible. LSU was horribly thin, scoring wise, off the bench. Nikita was 2nd to J Williams, only, in offensive output.

But yep...1986 PMAC is the reason no one gets to host anymore. Dana Kirk and Memphis State...

I almost forgot about Hot Plate Williams. He was going to be the next Magic Johnson.

Yeah, that was totally unfair that we had to beat Georgia Tech at the Omni in Atlanta in the Sweet 16.

Yes. LSU took out 6 seed Purdue and beat 3 seed Memphis on a last second buzzer beater.

LSU went on to beat 2 seed Georgia Tech in Atlanta at the Omni. Then beat 1 seed Kentucky to go to the final four.
