I could see Etling having a Brees-level arm, no frozen ropes like Mett, but able to make every throw.

Good post. I was thinking about his injury and looked up some of his games at Purdue. He deffenately had a stronger arm as a Freshman. Problem was his team/online was terrible and he got sacked 30+ times. Probably has something to do with his lingering injury ya think? If he has his velocity back from his Purdue days he's gonna shock people.

I like Etling's work ethic and determination, but he's not that good.

Member Jamarcus Russell? He could EASILY launch a 70 yard missile. Etling can barely toss a ball half that distance. Etling is as awkward in delivery as Jesse Daigle.

DE has plenty of arm strength to get the job done. I'll take great game management and accurate passing over a 4.4 runner that can throw it 70 yards. LSU football was fun agaian with Danny taking snaps. With a competent OC and DG in the backfield DE will have a tremendous year!

We had Matt Mauk lead us to a championship in 2003 & Matt Flynn to one in 2007. Etling has that same senior steady handed feel as those two guys.

Once again...somebody brings up the Two QBs from 10 and 14 years ago.

I love the optimism and hope he does well but you have to be realistic. In no way is he comparable to Mauck or Flynn.
I just hope he's an improvement from last year because I can't stand to watch poor QB play another season.

This is way too much optimism.

More like stupidity. I remember being on this train with Harris the year prior.

Their stats were near identical and both played through injuries (Etling back, Harris leg). Harris looked okay in the spring game, and few thought he'd improve much for the season. Etling looked awful in the spring game yet many think he'll automatically turn good because Canada.

I've already stated my thoughts. I think LSU needs to move on to a younger, more talented QB. We're going to waste Guice's heisman type year with a mediocre senior QB winning 8-10 games when we could do just the same with a younger and more talented QB.

DE is going to do very well this season IMO. He is a much better leader than most of us give him credit for and is tough as nails. He should end up in the top five SEC passers as well. Even after a totally mixed up season last year he still ended up with a great QB rating.

Name the QBs you think Etling will be in front of in the SEC? If you guys think Etling will be a top 5 SEC passer you're smoking the strong stuff.

That is insanity. You could make a much better argument that going with a younger, less experienced QB would be wasting Guice's potential Heisman type year.

LSU will move on to a younger QB - next year. Etling is the clear choice for QB1 in 2017.

Here's one Danny throws from the 45 yard line and hits DJ Chark 9 yards into the endzone for a TD. That's about 54 yards all in the air for a TD. I think that's a little more than half of 70 yards.

Etling won't win us an sec championship or final 4 games. Sorry, it's reality.

Now he'll win us 8-9 games and a possible gator bowl,

why do lsu fans act like Mauck was just a game manager at lsu? his 2003 season was one ofntge best qb seasons in lsu history. HE set the single season td passes record.

Mauck's 2003 season
quote:

Led the SEC in pass efficiency by connecting on 229 of 358 passes for 2,825 yards, 28 TDs and only 14 interceptions ? Threw at least one TD pass in all but two games for the Tigers in 2003 ? Tied the school-record for TD passes in a game three times with 4 scoring tosses vs. Western Illinois, Louisiana Tech and Arkansas ? Had two 300-yard passing games, going for 305 vs. Western Illinois and 311 vs. Louisiana Tech ? Tied a school-record by completing his first 14 passes vs. Louisiana Tech ? Tied another school-record by completing 17 straight passes over a two-game span earlier in the season (final 10 passes vs. Arizona, first 7 vs. Western Illinois) ? Set the school record for single-game completion percentage at 90.0 percent after connection on 18 of 20 passes vs. Louisiana Tech

Mauck was a playmaker for us at qb.
