'17 Etling - Top QB & Rating SEC

Here's my prediction for '17. Etling is healthy, more accurate and more arm strength. No telling how long he's suffered with a bad back. A healthy Etling means the Tigers offense is going to be prolific this year and oh by the way Guice is going to be unstoppable.

I expect him to be improved, but it'll take several severe injuries or deaths on other teams for him to be at the top.
If he's top 5, I think we can accomplish most of our goals.

Could not agree more Jeff. I just do not get why so many are down on Etling, the guy is perfect for Canada's offense and I think he will complete passes at a high percentage rate this fall when he is not handing it off to Guice.

DE is going to do very well this season IMO. He is a much better leader than most of us give him credit for and is tough as nails. He should end up in the top five SEC passers as well. Even after a totally mixed up season last year he still ended up with a great QB rating.
Ragging on DE and hoping to see him passed up by true fresh is just stupidity.

That is true. Etling got LIT. UP. last year multiple times and got right back up like a boss. You gotta pull for the kid.

There were definitely a few times I was surprised he got up and could walk straight. I hope he slides more this season, because I don't think the guys behind him are ready.

We had Matt Mauk lead us to a championship in 2003 & Matt Flynn to one in 2007. Etling has that same senior steady handed feel as those two guys.
I think he can be an excellent game manager and use Canada's dynamic play calling to get the ball into the skill players hands. I'm very hopeful we'll see improvement in our 2017 offense.

60% completion.. 3000+ yards. 25tds. He's got that this year. He's healthy. Got a year in the Sec under his belt. He's smart with a strong work ethic. He's got a better OC, great Rb and experience protecting him. We are gonna be happy with etling this year. Idk if he can beat Bama. No PP qb has really. But he will win 10 games as a starter.

The Etling hate is a head scratcher. Think about what this guy has been through. He transfers from Purdue to compete with Brandon Harris, who has all of the advantages of incumbency. Yet he gets his shot and does fairly well. Close to 60% completion, better than 2 to 1 TD to int ratio and nearly 8 yards per pass. Yes, he SUCKED v Bama. Name me the QBs who performed well v Bama that didn't get invited to the Heisman ceremony the past four years.
But at the same time, don't discount that experience. He has probably watched that Bama game a dozen times and realizes the mistakes he made. If he improves 5% on his completion percentage and takes one less sack every two games; if he realizes he doesn't have to take on the safety or linebacker unnecessarily in a vain attempt at an extra yard or two; and if he draws on experience and remains just a little calmer in the pocket in the Bama game, he very well could have a season like Mauck 03, Flynn 07 and close to Mett 13. That may not get us to the playoffs but it's 9 or 10 wins.

All I know is that when Etling took the reins last year I felt we had a shot. The team looked and responded much better with Etling at the helm. The offense set records with the D-Line coach as HC and the TE coach calling plays..............Call me a pumper......but I'll take Etling over anything we've had since Mett. Add to that No Miles/Cam...insert Canada....... It sounds crazy, but Etling will ABSOLUTLY be a top 3 QB in the SEC this year. BOOKMARK IT

I have confidence in Etling. LSU football was more fun with him at QB. It will be a fun season.

Look at it as compared to when Drew Brees came to the Saints: he never really was known as having a cannon, just an acceptable arm. That arm was injured, and Brees initially didn't have much deep range. As he regained form, his arm returned to normal, which was (for him) plenty good enough for NFL.
I could see Etling having a Brees-level arm, no frozen ropes like Mett, but able to make every throw.
A final year coupled with Chark leads me to expect good things. The 2 have a good connection, Etling can find him anytime he wants to.
