I just think Epps makes moves this year.

Somebody will. Happens every year. The good thing is we have a lot of candidates this year. Hopefully, it's Robinson and he makes a Tuba type jump in his 2nd year.

I like your comparison and all, but my hope for LSU basketball is that something like this NEVER has to be said again.

TUBA went from not being able to catch a basketball to being a pretty important piece for us in 1 offseason. His talent jump was Quarterman-esque.

gauging the jump, ok, you can go with that.

But, my point was to say that having to rely on a guy like Tuba for any support should be and needs to be in LSU's distant past.

Why exactly would Victor get ousted from the starting lineup as we prepare for the tournament?

This is not the first time I've seen someone do this, but why would you take the ball out of Quarterman's hands and move him to 4 and put the ball in Patterson's hands? That actually makes no sense. Like none.

Finishing, as in, the 5 we will finish games with. I guess I should have listed Quarterman 1st, as I know he and Simmons will be handling the ball. His length will be needed to guard larger guys on defense when we go small, which is why i listed him 4th.

I'll wait to see what Victor provides before I believe he is a top 5 player on this team that can finish games late.

With all due respect to Big Elbert, Malone, and Epps, I don't see any scenario where he isn't at the very least better than those 3. Sean Miller doesn't even shoot a glance at recruits that aren't great athletes, so while he's probably not the freak athlete of someone like Tyrus, I think his athleticism on here is way understated

I agree, which is why I had him taking the starting spot from Robinson mid season. I just don't know if he is good enough to keep Patterson off the court late in games. Simmons should be surrounded with as many shooters as possible.

aaaaahhhhhh.

Yea I could see that lineup but Quarterman would still be the PG.

I expect either Epps or ER III to make the biggest "jump" this year from their freshmen years. I dont think either takes a Quarterman leap but 1 if not both could become guys we lean on at times this year in the rotation.

If Malone is your 5, then TQ MUST be on the court. Otherwise LSU would get destroyed on the boards. Simmons can't do it alone, and Malone is just a bad rebounder. TQ gives you versatility (he can play and guard 3 spots) plus he's a very good rebounding guard. Once Victor is in the mix, then you could probably go with a Simmons/Victor frontcourt and mix and match the guards.

To start the season I think you see

Gray
Honsby
TQ
Simmons
Malone

Blakeney would be first off the bench likely to replace Gray. TQ (or Simmons) would slide to the PG spot on offense

I think some people don't realize just how good Hornsby was for LSU last year. It was HIM, not Mickey or Martin who had the most double-figure SEC games on the year. Plus, he busted his arse on the defensive end. It would be hard to keep his known production on the bench.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Does anyone know anything about Elbert's progression? Is he gonna be good enough by the time the season starts to log some meaningful minutes at the 5?

Yeah I dont get why anyone has Malone starting, ER III is better, if Victor is unavailable and we want to play a center it will be ER III over Malone. Malone might get 1-5 minutes a game this season.

The summer tour in Australia in August should tell us a lot. He, like Epps, was playing through injury all last year.

I forgot big Elbert wasn't playing at 100% last season. Excited to see how everyone performs on the summer tour.

Malone runs much better than big Elbert.

I think these four on the court fit extremely well together and are probably our best four players. Youve got experienced leaders on the court with the stud new guys. These guys are all very versatile on offense and defense
TQ
Blakeny
Hornsby
Simmons
I think you have to play these four when it matters, so hopefully another big can step up and fill that fifth spot
There are so many lineups you can make with this squad should be fun to watch

I feel like it'd be a huge victory if we can just get Elbert to get up and down the court and be a rebounding machine. The other 4 won't have a problem putting up big points, so that isn't even necessary.

We still have a long way until the season, so I'm not ready to say "maybe next year" for Robinson

Opening Night lineup

G Gray
G Blakeney
G Hornsby
F Simmons
C ER3

Bench: TQ, Patterson, Epps, Victor, Sampson

With Victor and TQ possibly taking starting roles depending on how Gray and Robinson handle their business
