LSU is 2nd in the sec behind UF with 14 sacks in 4 SEC games. Meanwhile Tamu has 5 in 3 games.

Say what you want about Steele, but his schemes are allowing us to get after the qb. For comparison, Danielle Hunter had 4.5 sacks in his career. Neal has 7 this season.

We just need to get a little better in the secondary...

Oh I agree, but if we had a pass rush under chavis it could have masked our young secondary in 2013.

Agreed. This is about Coach Eaux's drive and determination more than Steele's schemes.

Yes, but also you can tell the schemes are completely diff. Credit needs to be given where it is due, you have people saying Steele needs to fired at the end of the season.

He has our guys in great position, especially early on.

We have a more effective Defense under Steele. Better tackling, more pressure, and getting more turnovers.

I am actually extremely pleased with Steele, especially how thin we are on the line. Imagine once we get these #1 recruiting classes in.

His D virtually shuts opponents out early in the game while we mount a lead, whereas Chavis D isn't as good in the first half, but he makes great 2nd half adjustments.. only to blow the final drive. Steele not as good in the 2nd half, but they rise to the occasion on the final drive.

Seriously though looking at over numbers is incredible. Even on D. Before this week we were #3 in the SEC in total D, #4 in pass, and virtually tied with Florida for #2 rushing D.

Can't wait to see the updated numbers.

tamu has 20 sacks on the season, they put up numbers against their shite texas schools. I said all along they would struggle against power run teams just like LSU did under him. Im just believing now this wasnt a bad hire, I know there is still half a season left, but I like what I have seen so far. yeah they have blown some coverages, but even the 2010 and 2011 secondary blew coverages. shite that Arkansas game in 2010 still pisses me off.

Fvck. Yes.

I've loved every minute of this coaching upgrade we've made. Things are only going to get better IMO.

That may actually be true, as hard as it is to admit.

The one flaw that I'm finding in the defense comes with the big pass plays. If you break it down and watch it closely, you see that most big plays are coming against our D in zone coverage. First, there is always a hole in zone regardless.

The reason for our lack of success is largely due to lack of pressure on the QB when we call zone. Most of our pressures and most of our blitzes are in man. Especially with UF, Treon's big plays in the pass game came when we dropped 7 in zone and he either bought time or we didn't get enough pressure. Give a decent night QB 5 seconds to read zones and holes will be found and coverages will break down.

While we have always have phenomenal play from DBs in years past and they were naturally talented, they benefited from strong DLine play that disrupted the QB constantly allowing for exotic schemes. Neal has been a surprise and Godchaux has played exceptionally, but this is not the same lines from say 2010-2012.

Look at Bama for example(obligatory shitebag reference). They're secondary is progressing, but why are they more successful? They have a scary 3-4 front with Reggie Ragland that constantly disrupts with only 4 and can contain the run allowing them to focus on the passing game. Hence how they disrupted one of the best air raids.

We're getting there. We're recruiting the depth that is necessary so there's no drop off. I like LaCouture but he's another big body. We need another Michael Brockers type DL that can get after the QB. Or at least disrupt it up the middle and force the QB out of the pocket where a guy like Key can utilize his speed.

It'll be the key against BAMA. Coker isn't a runner, but he's not afraid to take a hit. Disrupt the middle of the pocket and force him out, he doesn't have the speed to break containment then you allow guys like Neal and Key to chase him down.

And blitz. A lot. Coker does not do well with pressure.
