I bet your little rant made you feel better but the following has been going on even in 1958.

Just get the good ones, no matter what, cover up whatever they do while they're at LSU, keep them out of trouble, and then just forget about them when they're gone.

You can tell that was a long time ago.

I always thought Chinese Bandits was the nickname for the defense. I never knew it was basically a third string bunch of misfits

Clemson coach Frank Howard made that mistake for reals - he claimed the Tigers first team was pretty good, but he couldn't wait for us to put in those 'third stringers' - he'd run the ball down their throats.

Bandits took care of business in that game.

Really cool. On page 13, the "Back of the Week" was SMU QB Don Meredith, long time MNF announcer with Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford and QB for the Cowboys in the 60s.

Baton Rouge has always been crazy about football, and last year, even with a team which lost half its games, LSU set a Southeastern Conference attendance record.

Guess they didn't have to worry about beating traffic back then.

Cool article, OP.

look at all the alcohol ads.

if prohibition would have taken hold, what would have had to take its place to even have a SI magazine.

The Go team white team and Chinese Bandits. In 1958 all 3 teams were 100% white

The lineman of the week, Jim Marshall, played in a then-record 270 straight games for the Vikings. He's also known for his wrong-way fumble recovery against the 49ers back in the 60s. Very elite company.
