Why doesn't LSU ever make LB's a top priority in recruiting?

They can be stacked at RB's, WR's,DB's and still recruit 3 or 4 at each position and only go after 1 or 2 LB's knowing we're thin at that position.

Honestly, I think it is because LSU uses smaller linebackers that do specific things. It seems like LSU got a jump on most of the SEC defenses by foreseeing the fast paced spread out offense. They mostly recruit guys to play LB that are 200-215ish coming out of high school which is pretty much the same size that they recruit their safeties.

Don't complain till after signing day.. I think we are going to land a big one as a surprise.. Keion Joyner is all Lsu 2016 and if we land Devin White 2016.. We will be good..

I think you're looking at a situation where we had one really good class (2012) that included Kwon Alexander, Lamar Louis, Debo Jones, and Ronnie Feist. This class also included Lorenzo Phillips who I believe is still trying to get back on the team.

After that class we spent our time trying to find a great MLB, and I think we found two. We have merely supplemented at OLB (Duke Riley, Donnie Alexander). It is pretty clear that we should take two OLBs this year, even if Kwon doesn't go early.

Next year's LB corps with Kwon:

OLB Lamar Louis/ Debo
MLB Kendall Beckwith/ Clifton Garret
OLB Kwon/ Duke Riley

If Kwon leaves, we either slide Debo or Garret into that role.

I'd say our linebackers are just fine.

Add Debo and Melvin Jones. Melvin Jones is a FB now, but that's seems to be because of a team need more than anything.

Not to bash our players, but if kwon leaves we're left with situational players/backups next year.

Kendall Beckwith and Lamar Louis are returning starters. LB recruiting isn't as bad as some make it sound.

If kwon leaves, which is a real possibility, we are thin as hell at outside lb. Louis struggled mightily this year and debo and riley were last second takes only after we missed out on others. Garrett is not an OLB as he is too slow.

I'm talking specifically about OLB. Louis did not have a good year as expected.

First, I am a huge fan of LBers...very versatile defensive players. Having said that, with the offenses getting more wide open...4 WRers sometimes, some teams not even having TEs to speak of, etc. LBers are becoming less of a priority with nickel and dime sets. To counter that a bit however, look what happened in the Ole Miss vs LSU game. Once Denzel N was lost, Ole Miss had no physical presence past the LOS. Also, before Beckwith took over as MLB {and Godchaux took a DT position}, teams were just running up the middle against LSU.

Bottom line: LBers aren't going away, but LSU should NOT sign 3 or 4 a year. Most of them would only hit the field on special teams

I doubt Kwon Alexander leaves early for the NFL. What position would he play in the NFL? He is small as a LBer even by college standards.

6...Kwon's possibly gone, Granier transfer, Phillips Juco...Debo has done spot duty to this point but hasn't shown he can be a starter yet. Louis was a bust this year. Feist has never had meaningful playing time. As a whole, that lb class has been a disappointment.

How has Louis been a 'bust' this year?
