Ware seems to have that extra little boost to get past linebackers, whereas Storm seems to have trouble breaking open for a long run.

I was always Lache-or-bust for this RB class

I was indifferent about Storm, especially knowing he wasn't going to be the feature RB in this class.

Never raved over him and am glad we took Ware over him.

Took this from another thread...but this was my response.

quote:

Why not? Are you not high on him, or do you think he's being overrated by both recruiting services?

Either way...why? His film seems pretty good to me...

Yeah, I think he is overrated. He does not impress me that much.

To me, he looks like a prospect that can do it all on the high school level, but it won't translate at the college level.

Once again, I will be in the very small minority, but I'll put him on my "bust" list. If he shines, then great, I'll eat crow--but I just don't see it.

Lynx, I respect your opinion but don't understand the John Williams comparison.

Why are we comparing a 180 pound HS QB / college WR to a 220 HS QB / college RB?

if you can't convince lynxx after a 2 minute highlight film you're legit then you should hang it up

Are we sure that he weighs 220? The listings I have seen say 210.

Their film looks very similar to me. I was a little surprised that Williams is only 180. I thought he was around 190, but nonetheless, I find their running styles/moves to be very comparable.

Ware is also considered as somewhat as an ATH--which surprises me he would be taken purely as a RB.

Yeah from the tidbit of film, which is not enough to make a fair evaluation between the two, I agree with Lynx. His speed is average and could be a SS or LB. I'm thinking Danny McCray.

Yes, he weighed 220 lbs at the Army Combine, and 222 lbs at the Nike Combine.

A ton of guys are an ATH, so I'm not sure why that's a negative. The guy was a QB in HS simply bc he has a good arms. Otherwise, he'd be a RB.

Weighed in at 227 at the OSU camp. Obviously he was lighter in that video. A 37 inch vertical at the weight is pretty impressive.

227 is getting up there in weight--especially for a guy that is only 5'11.

I'll copy what I wrote from another thread into this one...

It isn't one thing specifically that makes me doubt him.

I just have a few concerns:
1) How does he handle his weight? If he is truly already 220, then what happens when he hits the college weight room/college life.
2) His film looks great because he is breaking arm tackles (and throwing around) small, white boys. I want to find out what classification he is in--ETA: evidently the highest from a previous post, but looking at the guys in his highlights, consider me unimpressed by the athletes on the defensive side of the ball.
3) Most of his runs are on QB draws where there are massive holes for him to run through. He is good in space (good, very solid, not great...) but how does he hit a hole when taking the ball straight from a QB and the defense is aligned to close gaps? Does he hit the hole hard? Does he have the vision--he looks to have good vision in the open field, but does that translate between the tackles?
4) Do his lateral moves work at the next level? He does have some 'shake' to him, but it is more of a quickness that he is able to beat defenders with than him juking guys out of their shoes.

Positives:
1) Good size and very athletic. 37in vertical is impressive no matter who it comes from.
2) Great quickness, especially for his size.
3) Toughness--is willing to take some shots.
4) Cut-back (kind of goes with quickness)
5) Good speed for a guy his size.

i'll take great athletes anytime. great get for us. i think he's a better prospect than storm. still like blue to have a chance in this class. and of course lache. 3 rbs is a bit much in this class it may seem, but we'll need some young guys to get in the system next year. ridley, murphy, ford, calhoun(if not db convert). there will be a chance for 1 or 2 freshmen to get some reps.

Spencer Ware!!! Plus, it's public (not "secret") knowledge we got him. He also looks super (after viewing 5 videos) for a Junior in HS. His elusive ability, good to great football speed, and athletic ability will definitely help LSU in the long term. Is he better than Storm? We may never know. Is he a great addition to the LSU team - you betcha' (Michigan, Ohio phrase).

Lynxcat - I share your concerns. Nobody can predict the future. But I like what you're doing. You and I know Spencer Ware will/has read this site. Your comments will PO him/inspire him to "prove you wrong/uninformed". By the way, I'm not calling you out - I just have a different take on our newest recruit. I think he will be a great addition to our LSU steamrolling future dynasty.

It is a little bit different for LSU to have 21 committments even before high schools have started their fall two a days "Sweatathon". Maybe we are in a different era in recruiting. I think so. But OK, it's good to see that LSU can do this with the other "big boys".

Spencer Ware - welcome to LSU. Good luck on our national contender football team (as well as Mainiere's national contender baseball team).
