They should start a draft for college football and 1st round for top 5 conferences would be set a ceiling $$ amount, 2nd and 3rd and all after the 3rd round as a minimum $$ ceiling.

The transfer portal does not have good players???
For the most part, no. They aren’t good relative to the standard LSU football player.

The transfer portal by itself is fine. It allows coaches to know when it is ok to contact a kid who is looking to transfer. That gives the kid more options without having to reach out to each individual school.
Theoretically it should prevent tampering to a certain extent as it sets very clear times when active players can and cannot be contacted. Give the kids financial incentive to report improper contacts.
I am not worried too much about NIL. Eventually some kids are going to get together and figure out it is more lucrative to get in business for themselves like selling branded clothing or the like.
As for the one year sit out, I think that just punishes the kid. LSU is seeing a few more yransfers than normal, but considering the coaching change with drastically different style coaches, I was expecting it to be a lot worse. In a normal year you won't see transfers beyond players who have been passed up on the depth chart.

Schools will see how much money they can get from boosters to buy teams every year....
It will be a bidding process for the 4/5 star players. Wealthy boosters will control the landscape.
School spirit is only a memory.

Feels like a meat market baw!,
College basketball ball was a shite show, now football.
Don’t blame the kids, blame the adults

Yeah I mean Bama and Texas A&M can just sit back now and let everybody else take the risk on some players , and if they pan out get in their ear offer them money. Then they can just leave without reason to the transfer portal.Seems like a great idea.Whoever is running the NCAA should be kicked in the nuts for being a dumbass. Now you can recruit, then if players don’t pan out you tell them there is no place for them, then just steal players from your rivals to fill holes.Lovely

You’re wrong because most of the kids who transfer are not good
Technically, that doesn't automatically mean they are good I guess.
But that is 3 starters nonetheless.

I mean just off top my head in the portal this year was 2 all American type Offensive Lineman, solid WRs,a bunch of starting QBs,starting caliber RBs that add depth at minimum,an All American Cornerback, and few other solid players. The whole portal doesn’t have to be filled with studs for you to be able to build a really good team every year through meddling with your opponents players and using the portal and NIL to get what you need to win

I’m not sure you understand the vastness of college football & CFB rosters
Posted on 12/18/21 at 7:08 pm to TigerFan244
Seems like you get a 2023 and 2024 NFL draft projection sheet and make note of every player at a smaller or less prestigious school and target them.

I’m not talking about not recruiting at all an building just your roster off the portal I’m talking about with the portal the top tier teams can absolutely use it to sabotage their rivals teams, and get other solid players to add the depth needed to play 15 games and win a National title.Having starting QBs bouncing around like ping pong balls alone shows how much the portal can help teams. With NIL the portal is a shite show and another form of recruiting all you gotta do is talk them into entering portal and signing with you. It’s a joke

Read my posts, it is a complete difference maker for QB’s.
But the regular transfer rules already were.

The portal and NIL makes you have to recruit players already on your team to make them not leave. The top talent is going to the top schools. When no one has to sit out all your smaller schools with super stars are feeders to the big fish. There was plenty of talent in the portal especially in the O Line department which is one of the most important if not the most important part of a winning team.I don’t think it’s so much the portal as it is the power of money can make anybody enter the portal

Recruiting HS kids remains important.
But…
It’s never been less important.

The transfer portal will change, good players will also be entering the transfer portal for larger NIL contracts.
I am not anti NIL, anti transfer portal or anti opting out.
Just combination of the 3 has made roster management extremely difficult, requiring a new expertise for AD's and coaches.
Keep in mind these players should be students first, transferring from state to state does not mean all credits will transfer
In the last 40 years the world has seen so many changes and we seem to adapt and adjust.

Bingo-Roster management will be a difference maker. Some like Bama and A&M will focus money on high school kids and stock pile top talent and let the roster play out and process those that don’t develop. Others will selectively recruit top talent and players that fit their program and work the portal. We shall see how this plays out. Approximately 242 of the 260 drafted players each year were not 5 stars coming out of high school.

Just the opposite, it makes recruiting that much more important. Now a handful of schools with the richest boosters can recruit all the top players, sort through them, keep the best ones and pay them well, and let the others transfer out. Then do it all over again the following year. Those same schools can also take the cream of the crop from the transport portal

I can actually see a new portal scout and recruiting coordinator for each school. Probably department in the NCAA to control all aspects of the portal. Could there even be a portal combine so players can be evaluated?
