well, we could go back to the "old days". both ken stabler and john david crow, to mention a couple, were actually kidnapped prior to signing day. they were held until they signed. it was laughed at back in the day. of course, today, there would be horror.

I mean, people act as if this sort of stuff is new.

It's been going on forever. people just know about it now.

I feel sorry for Chavis. He is at a historical Little Brother football program that appears that they are not even close to becoming elite.

You mean the guy we begged to stay here? The guy who is one of the highest regarded dcs in the game? I can assure you that A&M's struggles won't be because of Chief.

Our anemic, one-dimensional offense put up 327 yards on him last year.

Just imagine what havoc we would have done if we understood what a forward pass was!

Love Frank and think he'll be a good HC in time, but he is just getting his feet wet.

When ATM hired Sumlin, he had already been an established HC at Houston, and had run an Offense as OC at ATM & OU, also held AHC title twice.

With Sumlin's fate probably on track as early as this next Nov or the one there after at latest.

I seriously doubt Scott Woodward in choosing his HC, and the big oil 12th Man Foundation types too, in going with a HC lacking Power Five Conference HC experience, and/or much in the form of W-L lifetime track record marks.

ATM doesn't need as much a recruiter, it needs a proven helmsman, and/or grinder that can return them to RC Slocum-esque discipline/toughness. Someone that can take some of that Tejas 7-on-7 camp softness out..and inject some shoe-leather toughness in.

This day and age, it's about recruiting. Whether it's players or assistant coaches, the head coach isn't much without both. Frank may not have the "experience" yet, but he's one of the best, if not the best recruiter there is. I'm not even from Louisiana and I would be damn proud to have him as the next head coach at LSU.

Lots of Top 25 staffs have ace recruiters, but the list of the last 30 years of Natty title HCs sans a Coker, Chizik, or three here there, are elite HCs. It all starts at the top. You can buy recruiters at 500k to 800K Asst Coach slots.

Is ATM aiming to be just a contender, or a natty champ?

With their current warchest and facilities, they should be able to sway a proven name HC. Look at their last 30 yrs of hires, were established names, Sherrill away from Pitt, Slocum promoted from DC, Franchioni away from Bama, Sherman from Texans OC(just three yrs removed from being Packers HC), then Sumlin off 35-17(24-8 C-USA) UH stint..

Just open 2 threads where in one you praise Chavis, the other you belittle Coach O.

Stop pretending to be a LSU fan. It's obvious you aren't.
