Between Breaux, Harris and Lee at UL, I wish we wouldve signed one of them.

Talking to several kids that have gone and will go out of state, this keeps getting mentioned. Surely whatever LSU offers plus TOPS has to be the same as these other schools.

Some guy who seemed to be a relative claimed that LSU offered 14k over 4 years in addition to Tops and MSU offered 125K over 4 years.

If those numbers are legit, that's essentially a full ride at MSU and enough to cover the fees that TOPS fails to cover, but not much for living expenses.

Now whether those numbers are legit, who knows? I wouldn't think MSU would offer that much to a guy straight from high school of his caliber (very good, but not elite), but it's possible. Maybe they did just to say they stole one from LSU.

MSU offered more money and he felt somewhat slighted from what I heard.

Baseball recruiting is a completely different beast with 11.7 to offer. Can't look at it black and white like you can with football and basketball

With Both of Harris' parents being graduates of UL-Lafayette, there wasn't anywhere else he was going but there.

I have talked with several parents and athletes that have either gone to LSU for baseball or been offered. Paul does not make it a habit to offer in state kids a lot more than tops. Tops and maybe 25%. Saves most of it for out of state players. One player, who is now an in state college coach, was a weekend starter back about 6 years ago was not getting anything for baseball. Was promised for his sophomore year and left because Paul did not come through.

25% is the minimum for a baseball scholarship player. PM's philosophy is pretty good. It costs many more $$ to bring in the out of state players, and we've had some good ones. Tops plus 25% puts the state players in pretty good position.

It's not even close, LSU basically offers the minimum (1/4 of a scholarship) to instate kids and hopes they have always dreamed of playing at LSU and in some cases the baseball players have to take out a loan even though he has a scholarship. When it's less a financial strain on families to go to other programs it can become a very easy decision. CPM acts like TOPS is a scholarship he is "giving" them. As long as that continues LSU will lose kids like Kale Breaux and Nick Lee to other schools.

When did TOPS stop paying 100% of tuition? All I had to pay for were books when I had TOPS.

No idea but I've got one that just finished school and one still in and it nearly pay everything. From speaking with kids and families of recruits they want what they feel is fair speaking from a baseball scholarship and plain and simple this isn't what LSU offers to instate kids and adults they don't make much of an attempt to find additional scholarships the players might be able to receive. I've known several different players offered by LSU and they all have the same story.

And that is the reason Nick Lee and Hogan Harris went to ULL. They were the 2 best pitchers in the state last year and both ended up just down I-10.

I have heard the same and it's been PM's strategy since he got to LSU.
